Severino had essentially the same stuff when he came up and better control, but his FB was much straighter, and he couldn't just fire it almost anywhere to get swings and misses. That's the difference. But really, we have to see Gil do this to good hitting teams. Soto, Judge and Verdugo for the Yanks in the 5th. Inger always railed against Sevy's straight fastball. Severino also never had a change-up like Gil's. Also, Severino couldn't control his emotions when things started to go bad. Gil takes that emotion, bottles it under the surface and battles. You're right. when things went against him, or in big games, he couldn't command himself, much less the baseball. His poor postseason record is the result of that.

Rizzo Slider below the zone, fouled Sinker at the knees, taken, 0-2 Flats says Rizzo in battle mode, the battle consisted of him chasing a bounced slider for the K, 2 down.

The season started with Soto saying he is going to be a FA and just focus on this season to now Soto and Hal saying extension discussions can be had. Hopefully this leads to a long term signing.

In 9 starts, Soroka was 0-5 with a 6.39 ERA. 43 2/3 innings, 42 hits, 33 runs, 31 earned, 10 HR, 24 BB, 24 K. I don't want it to happen when he's pitching vs the Yankees, but I hope he can turn those stats around. He showed a lot of potential when he was with the Braves in 2019. He looked like the next big thing for the Braves. You hate to see a guy lose it like that.

Torres... FB on the low outside corner taken, 0-1 Slider just outside where the FB went, swung on and missed, 0-2 Slider 4-5 inches outside near the bottom 1-2 Same pitch a bit lower, taken again, 2-2 Back to FB here? Yep, FB above the zone, swung under for the K, but it gets by Lee back to the screen, Torres gets going, but it caroms back to Lee, who throws him out at 1st by a step or two to kill the rally and end the inning.
Soroka shows off excellent stuff with K's of Verdugo, Rizzo and Torres around a BB to Stanton, throwing 20 pitches.
Top 6, 6-1 Yanks. 3-4-5 for the White Sox in the 6th: Vaughn, Jimenez and Benintendi.

Can anyone actually see Soto leaving the Yankees to go to the Mets even for a little more? LOL what a joke. He was made for Pinstripes. He’s starting to figure out how to pull the ball into that short porch…

Vaughn...Slider waist high inside corner, taken 0-1 FB in more or less the same spot, fouled, 0-2 Starts to swing on a slider low, checks in time, 1-2 Chases a slider starting on the outer half, then turning right and winding up 3-4 inches outside above the knees, 7th straight K and 12th of the game, 1 down.

Jimenez takes a change low, then swings over a change down and in, 1-1 Slider low 2-1 Hanging slider in the middle, and Jimenez guides it sharply past Berti's dive to his left for a 1 out single. K streak over at 7.

I was just musing to myself that the Yankees could bolster the bullpen with a guy like that. Blake seems to do his best work with relievers. He could eventually be a real weapon.

Benintendi... FB in the zone down and in, 0-1 Change outside, 1-1 Change well outside 2-1 FB about 3 inches outside, chases and fouls it off 2-2 Change starts at the corner away, dives low and outside, chases it for the K, 2 down. 13 K's for Gil. Too bad Boone almost certainly won't give him a chance to chase down Guidry's 18 K's.
