FB at the top of the zone, outside middle, grounded sharply back to Yamamoto, who handles it easily, throws out Trevino Inning over.
Top 6, 0-0 8 pitch 1-2-3, and 74 through 5 for Yamamoto. He's retired 10 in a row on 37 pitches now.

Looking like last year's team offensively. You're looking at Yamamoto, 97-98 FB, and sharp breaking two plance splitters and sliders plus excellent command.

Slider misses low to Freeman on the inner 3rd, called a strike anyway, bad call, not close, 3-4 inches low on Gameday, 0-1 Slider outside, 1-1 Slider gets a tiny piece of the outside corner below the waist, taken, 1-2 Slider in the same spot but lower, Freeman spoils it. Arrrggg. Slider backs up inside, hits him on the front leg. HBP.

Sinker down the middle, Smith fouls it off. Sinker on the outer 3rd above the waist, taken, 0-2 Change backs outside at the knees, Smith lays off, 1-2 Change winds up below middle, bad location, Smith somehow hits it off the end of the bat early, fouling it off. Bad location. Flies open again and misses well outside with the change, 2-2 Watch out here.

Sinker low, 3-2 Two bad choices, walk him giving 1st and 2nd with nobody out Or groove one and risk the HR.
OK, interesting Change bounced over home and Smith flails wildly for the K. I did not see that coming.
And with Teocar due in, and Heyward behind him, Boone takes out Gonzalez and goes to a sudden addition to the Circle of Trust™, Tonkin. Risky pick. Let's see what happens.

time for Tomkin to turn back to a pumpkin? Maybe, pres, but this is the price of having to burn the pen last night.

Slider a mere 18-20 inches outside, ball 1 on Hernandez Slider only 4-6 inches outside, 2-0 Slider diving low in the middle, swung over, 2-1 Don't hang one, Tonkin, he'll bury it. FB up in the zone outside corner a bit late and under, misses it, 2-2 Back to the slider here outside And he threw it, and Teoscar chases it low and away for the K, 2 down.

1st pitch thigh high sinker at 93 tails to the corner away, Heyward rolls over on it right to Torres, throws him out, inning over.
You know, I could be wrong about Tonkin. Maybe there's a reason teams keep picking him up on waivers. Maybe, but more likely it's that hitters haven't seen him enough yet. Maybe Blake is working another miracle with a scarp heap pickup reliever, I dunno.
Bottom 6, 0-0 Top of the order gets its 3rd look at Yamamoto: Volpe, Verdugo and Judge.

Starts Volpe with a curve starting in the middle, hooking to low and away in the zone, topped foul off 3rd. FB outside waist high, 1-1 Sinker in the zone down and in, Volpe tops a soft chopper to 3rd, K. Hernandez cuts it off, throws him out, 11 in a row for Yamamoto, 1 down.

Splitter outside by 4 inches called a strike thigh high, bad call, worst of the game, not close on Gameday 0-1 Splitter in almost the same spot called a ball, to prove the point. Fb on the corner in the same area, 1-2 Splitter low, Verdugo lays off, 2-2 Curve near the corner away, fouled off. FB up in the zone, Verdugo inside outs a liner well off 3rd, but K. Hernandez playing right there, and catches it. At least he made solid contact. 2 down, 12 in a row.
