Humps up to 97 on the FB near the corner away, swing and a miss, 0-1 FB way above the inside corner, Abreu limbos back, but it wasn't that close. 1-1 FB waist high just outside at 97, doesn't quite get it, fouled back to the left. Change is not a bad idea, just don't hang it. Girardi has a clue there.

Big K for Weaver. One more to get out of this mess.

Checking in from the other side of the world; I see it's still a clown show. Ugh.

Weaver rushed and closed up on the change, and bounced it over the outer half. Too easily seen as low to get the chase, 2-2 Better change starts higher to the same spot near the corner away, dives low again, but close enough to get a chase, K. 2 down.

1st pitch cutter below middle, but O'Neill rolls over on it to LeMahieu at 3rd, he gets the butt down, looks it into the mitt, sets and throws a strike to Rice and the Yanks are lucky to escape with no runs. Helluva job by Weaver after the error.
Bottom 8, 3-1 Yanks, and I wouldn't mind a tack-on run or three here.
Verudgo, Cabrera and Wells for the Yanks, probably still against Booser, with two lefties due in, and Cabrera better from the left side.

Get it over FB inside middle, but Verdugo misses, fouling it off. Sweeper goes across the whole zone, taken for a strike above the knees, 0-2 Slider well outside taken, 1-2 FB at 96 at the top just outside, chases and misses, K, 1 down.

Cabrera... Cutter misses down and in, 1-0 FB almost down the middle, but he's late and under, flies out to Duran in medium right of center, 2 down.

Wells takes a sweeper bounced over the outer half, 1-0 Takes a FB bounced a bit further outside, 2-0 Freezes him with a cutter that starts at him, breaks to the corner inside, 2-1 Leaves a FB just above middle, and he inside outs a slap single in front of O'Neill. You'd like to see him do more with that pitch, but not against this very deceptive and tough lefty.

When was Holmes's last save opportunity?

Volpe gets the same FB that Wells just singled on, misses under, pops to Duran in short center, inning over.
Top 9, 3-1, and Clay Holmes coming on to try to get his first save in 3 weeks. He hasn't had one since the terrible meltdown against the bottom of the order and Maikel Garcia in the 4th game in KC. Been stuck on 19 saves since then. Yanks really really need him not to blow this one.
Devers, Wong and Gonzalez for the Sox in the 9th.
