The Rice being a contact hitter analysis might be overstated. Or maybe they're starting to get a book on him. Siri takes a cutter outside middle for a strike. A splitter in a bad spot, just below middle, and Siri just misses, flying out to Grisham in deep right of center, 2 down. |

Things are really bad when even a guy like Soto can't get it done. The way things are going for the Yankees watch Judge leadoff the 5th inning with a HR. About 650 feet, but still only worth one run… |

Bad cutter waist high, inside 3rd, pulled into the corner in right for a 2 out double.

Inside move fakes Walls back to 2nd.
A slurve near where the slider when is fouled off and to the left, again an 0-2 count.
Cutter in the zone up and in, spoiled perfectly, Keith Hernandez-style almost straight back.

Slow curve down and in, golfed way high down the right side, but also way foul.
Palacios spins away from a cutter up and in, 1-2
Tries to time a slurve out of the zone down and in, and nearly gets it, pops it high to right, throws the bat down in disgust at not burying it. Soto moves toward the corner a bit and catches, inning over.
Bottom 5, 3-0 Rays. 16 pitches for Stroman in the 5th, 86 through 5. Now maybe he starts the 6th, but against Paredes, B.Lowe and Aronzarena that's a dubious move.
Judge, Wells and Torres for the Yanks in the 5th against a righty, I'd think.

I think that's part of it but also wonder if all the HRs early in his career hasn't changed his approach a bit. |
