Iglesias takes a ball, then a strike, then rolls a sinker outside to Cabrera for the 1st out.

I'm starting to think Wells might be our leadoff guy. Good eye, walks a lot, tough abs, runs pretty well. Down side would be back to back lefties. Unless they protect Judge with Soto, but that might be too advanced thinking for Boone/analytical staff.

Alvarez takes a slider for a strike, then 3 balls, then foul tips a FB with a vicious cut. 3-2 Hanging slider on the corner inside, lined into the corner in left, rebounds right to Verdugo, and Alvarez holds at 1st with a 300+ foot single.

Taylor fouls off a silider, then fouls a FB up off of Wells' mitt and into the side of the HP umps' face/neck. Trainer out to check on him.

It's not discipline. It's years of learning by getting hit. The mask is made to protect you looking forward. If you turn, your protection goes away.

The problem is that with a good lineup, Volpe, Rice and Wells would be very comfortable in the bottom 4 slots in the order. Because they have no one else, they're trying to force them all into roles they're not ready for...yet.

Taylor fouls off two more, takes two balls, 2-2 count now. Gets a FB in the zone above and inside middle, misses under, pops high to short left, Verdugo comes in, catches, 2 down.

The Yankees have a cheapskate owner who already blew the money he's willing to spend, on an ace, a superstar RF, and an aging, always hurt .230 hitter. There's no money left to sign Soto. That means for 2025, instead of "only 2 hitters on the team" (as Sevi so truthfully put it), there will be 1. What a mess the Yankees organization has become. You know soon there will be drivers in New York, who weren't even born the last time the Yankees won a world championship! How sad is that?

George is gone and we need to face it. Hal runs it like a business and not with emotion BUT the Yankees would never have gotten spanked by the Mets every game without repercussions.

Mets #9 hitter has been on 4 times tonight. I'd bet our #9 hitters haven't been on base 4 times in the last 2 weeks.
