The Soto deal was a blockbuster deal, not a lopsided one. The Yankees created a huge depth issue in their pitching staff with that deal and we see it now. And as you point out, it is far too early to assess the Chisholm trade. Sure, every GM deserves credit fot deals that improve his team. I am not sure those deals are the ones that support your case for Cashman. In my opinion, the Soto deal is a lopsided trade if he re-signs with the Yankees. So far the Jazz trade favors the Yankees. Again, in my opinion, the bottom line, if a GM is going to get blamed for bad trades, it's only fair that same GM gets credit for making good trades. Hard to make resigning Soto a condition for the trade that got him here. There is no telling where that price goes.

I think we are a pair of old guys who remember when the Yankees had 3 of the very best in baseball on one team. There was not a single Yankee on the great Dynasty teams as good as a prime Don Mattingly, Winfield and Henderson. The '98 team won with depth and pitching. And that is my formula for the future. I fear paying Soto will keep the Yankees from the deals they need to win a WS.

I see your point, it takes a complete team to win a championship, but I would say that Jeter was a good as all three of those guys. Jetes was one of the ten best SS's of all time.

I fear paying Soto will keep the Yankees from the deals they need to win a WS. At the time, those 3 players might have been the best 3 all around players in MLB. The Yankees problem was they traded Drabek and Tewksbury for a starting pitcher past his prime and a mediocre starting pitcher. So yes, I agree, pitching is important.
If I remember correctly the Yankees were trying to trade for Burnes after they traded for Soto. So that makes me think that they will find the money they need if they have to add pitchers. I expect Hampton and Warren to eventually be MLB pitchers. Yankees have Cole who's an Ace. Rodon has been pitching better and so far Gil looks like a top of the rotation pitcher.
Just my 2 cents, but with or without Soto, the Yankees are going to rely more on their pitching prospects because unless it's a salary dump, not many teams trade good starting pitchers.
Thorpe is on the IR. Brito and Vasquez aren't having good seasons. The pitcher the Yankees could use is King, but the other side of the coin is that Soto is one of the best players in MLB. I think it's easier for the Yankees to replace King than it would be for them to replace Soto. Soto energized the Yankees lineup.

For anyone that's wondering. In my opinion, Wandy Peralta's 2024 season is nothing to brag about.

I think we will pick up this conversation at length during the offseason ! For now, let's hope we enjoy some winning.

Getting old I forgot the 4th star of the day...Willie Randolph. Easy to forget his greatness. I respect anyone who makes a case for Jeter being on the same level. My point is just that one, two or even thee guys cannot win a championship.
