Soto goes after a 1st pitch curve in the zone low/away, grounded to Hamilton toward 2nd, he fields and throws him out, and even Soto is not immune to the bad RISP fail here. Yanks get a GIFT leadoff double and do NOTHING with it, not even a 2nd baserunner, and 3 RISP fails later, it's still 6-5 Sox, going bottom 6.
Rafaela, then back to the top for Duran and Abreu for the Sox in their half of the inning.

Those were the days. Bobby Shantz is available and rested too. El Brujo! The Witch Doctor! I saw Michael "The Falafel" King as deadly in that role, but I understood why he wanted to become more of a set-up man and eventually to become a starter ($$$). I really don't see Weaver as the guy to fill that multiple inning role. The bullpen really misses the Ian Hamilton from last season and Michael King. Yep. He's doing well for San Diego. But the cost for Soto of course.

Rafaela chases a 1st pitch slider that nearly bounced outside, 0-1 Swings over a slider near the knees, 0-2 Don't hang a slider inner half, please. Ok, that wasn't a great location, but it didn't exactly hang, it stays inside middle, but had decent drop, and Rafaela swung over for the 3 pitch K, finishing Cousins' outing for tonight. With multiple lefties coming up, the Yanks go to their much-feared power lefty, ( ) Tim Hill. Geeze.

Verdguo takes a cutter high, ball 1. Fouls off a slider on the inner 3rd, 1-1 Cutter knicks the outside corner, not called, Gets a break, 2-1, 5% on Gameday Doesn't take advantage, chases a curve low, grounds it to Hamilton, throws him out as Grisham goes to 3rd, another RISP fail. 1-8 so far. More to come I'm sure.

Who did we really bring in with any pedigree as a steady, high-leverage reliever?

Abreu takes a FB in the drop the bat happy zone down and in, 0-1 Takes a slider outside at the knees, 1-1 Takes a sinker high, outer 3rd, 2-1 Takes a sinker on the corner away, above the knees, 2-2 Takes a timeout. Takes a FB outside, by an inch or two, 3-2 Sinker waist high, outer 3rd, just missed, fouled back. Comes from down low, the sinker misses way up and away, taken, ball 4. Yoshida up, man on 1st, 2 down with Devers on deck.

Yoshida takes a sinker on the corner away, 0-1 Gets a sinker inside and below middle middle, lifts a fliner to left, easy play for Soto, inning over.
Top 7, 6-5 Sox. So let's sum up from the floor, so far. Yanks got 3 in the 1st, Sox got them right back. Yansk got 1 in the 2nd, Sox got 2 back Yanks tied the game in the 5th, Sox got a leadoff HR right back to regain the lead. At no time have the Sox been intimidated, not even after the two blasts by Soto/Judge. At no time have the Yanks shown they can hold a lead against them. 3 innings left.

Judge, Wells and Torres for the Yanks vs. Winckowski for the Sox.

Cutter waist high, outside corner taken, 0-1 on Judge. Cutter well low/outside, Judge checks, but the 1st base ump rings him up, marginal call there, 0-2 Cutter outside, 1-2 Slider outside, thigh high, 2-2 Tries to back the change over the corner away, Wong tries to pull it back, no sale, missed by 3-4 inches, 3-2 Cutter waist high near the corner away, Judge tries to drive it to right, misses late and under, fouls it off the right side.

Goes with the sinker tailing well inside, Judge backs up and takes, ball 4. Leadoff walk for NY. Let's see if Judge gets to even 2nd base.

Wells is early and over a waist high change, outer 3rd, 0-1 Takes a cutter inside, thigh high, 1-1 Another cutter is more inside, makes him jackknife, 2-1. Backing him off the plate, Maybe goes outside here? Change bounced over home, 3-1 Big breaking cutter goes across the whole plate, winds up inside, but he chases ball 4, bounces it foul, 3-2 Judge goes, hanging cutter inside corner, Wells late and under, pops it out of play off 3rd.
