Yon never know with Colorado weather! It was in the 70's this morning during my long run, way to warm for this time of the year. Colorado...could be 20 with a foot of snow one day, 60's and sunshine the next. True in general, but once it gets cold here a 40 degree day is like a gift… and a night in the teens is even better. I just like it when the wind calms down, which is rare…

"maybe" losing some of his stuff. last season he was a beast. this year as you said, think a lot of it was because he came back too soon. also wonder if he isn't suffering a bit from a case of "tanaka-itis" where because he didn't have the surgery, he can't consistently bring it like he used to. will be able to better judge next spring.
as for the aging of pitchers losing top stuff - think in general they "age" better than hitters. cole is 34. degrom came back the other day at age 36 after missing nearly 2 years throwing 99. verlander and scherzer also continued to be great into their late 30's before injuries took over.
Verlander and Scherzer definitely lost top velocity the last few years. Compensated in other ways. Scherzer failling apart physically for several seasons now, which is what happens to some power pitchers who can't adjust their approach. DeGrom keeps getting hurt for long stretch every season now. verlander didn't really lose much velo until this season. you can make the case that the 2018-19 & 2022 (age 39 maybe his best) seasons were as good as 2011-12 his best tiger years. according to fangraphs, his top velo season was 2009 with 95.6. in 2018 he was at 95.0, 2019 94.6, 2022 95.0 which compare favorably to 2011 94.8 and 2012 94.2. his age 39 season after missing 2 years is particularly impressive and yeah he's throwing more sliders. even at age 40 in 2023 he was still at 94.3. at age 41 more injuries and "maybe" the end is near.
cole is signed for 4 more seasons through age 37 so with the way he takes care of himself, hopefully he holds up. this season as we've both said, perhaps he not up to full strength due to rushing back.
agree scherzer now 39, has fallen apart the past couple seasons.
