Bad base running has been a common theme under Boone. Two outs already in this game on the bases. The MLB announcer just said the Yanks are last in mlb running the bases. So, no surprise. I don't know what metrics they use to figure that out, but I believe it. |

Fb at the top of the zone not called, and Story steals 2nd. To add insult to injury, the pitch was 50-50 on Gameday, and not called a strike, bad call, 1-1
Bounces a curve outside, 2-1
Slider on the corner away, fouled, 2-2.
Misses high with a FB, inner 3rd, ball 3.
Cutter misses up and in, ball 4, and Cole might be lost mentally, because his Big Plan™ for Devers backfired on him.

FB misses outside at 97, Cole gets a lucky call in his favor, 0% on Gameday by 2-3 inches.
Change way outside waist high, is ball 3.
Cutter above the zone outer 3rd, high fly to fairly deep right, Valdez just missed it, Soto catches, Story tags and goes to 3rd.

Paulie, you don't think about doubling up Duran here, you're not going to get one.
Normally you'd think about getting a K against him, he still does that, but Devers is on deck.
FB outside middle fouled.
Cutter up and in, hits Duran, bases loaded, 1 out for Devers.
Blake goes out to talk to Cole about Devers, but what can he say? Cole is trapped, and so is Boone.

That curve was NOWHERE NEAR the middle, it was low outside corner, and Devers is a great hitter and he got it for a line drive single, 1st and 3rd, 1 out for O'Neill.

Cole showed me a lot today...He is no leader when it comes to the pitching staff of this team...You're supposed to lead by example...not by walking someone and showing the world you fear him. Sorry..but those are the facts.
