Don't know what writers want, but there must be parity for the league to prosper. And newspapers will eventually go the way of the milkman. I am the egg man… Ooh!

Today we call him Instacart, Fresh Direct or any of scores ot other profitable busineses. Things change amd really smart people adapt. My brother was a milk man about 55 years ago. I used to ride along and help. He never paid me, so he got his money’s worth…

He never paid me, so he got his money’s worth… Not something I'm proud of, but my buddies and I occasionally stayed out all night and would "help ourselves" to breakfast with orange juice from the milkman's truck and Kaiser Rolls from the early morning delivery to the local deli, which were left outside the store. I later went to work for that deli. Don't know if they still exist, but there was also a snack company (Charles Chips) which made home deliveries and, of course, Mr. Softee & Good Humor for ice cream treats. Kids in the neighborhood would go berserk when hearing the "music" coming from either...kind of a Pavlovian response.

Charles Chips are still sold in tin cans similar, though smaller, than those you remember. The delivery service is gone, replaced by an online site and of course, Amazon.

The cans I remember were the size of those people now get during the holidays for stuff like caramel corn, etc. In retrospect, kinda weird people would get potato chips delivered. Seems like a luxury reserved for the "rich".

We had lots of things delivered: canned tomatoes, olive oil, gallons of bleach.....

We didn't have anything delivered...especially anything as unnecessary as potato chips, which was considered a luxury.

My brother was a milk man about 55 years ago. I used to ride along and help. He never paid me, so he got his money’s worth… I may have told this story previously, but my friend Cliffy used to drive a milk truck back in the late 1940s and early 1950s. After his first route, the boss asked how it went. Cliffy told him that all was fine but he was starving, as he didn't have time to stop for lunch. His boss told him that he could always eat something off the truck if he wanted. Cliff told him that he was eyeing the buttermilk at one point. The boss to him to help himself. After the first two weeks, his boss called him in and said, "How much f%$^ing buttermilk can you drink?"

BTW...Schwan's finally, officially, went belly up. There was a Schwan's near my grandfather's house when I was a kid. They had really good burgers.

BTW...Schwan's finally, officially, went belly up. There was a Schwan's near my grandfather's house when I was a kid. They had really good burgers. Didn't know they had retail locations. Something about buying steaks from a guy in a truck that just doesn't work for me...even worse is a guy in a pickup selling seafood. Gotta be a GREAT salesman.
