The key was the walk to the bottom of the order. You just can not walk someone in that situation.

Basic fundamentals. Something this team has struggled with too damn much. That and another Boone blunder. Not sure where he saw the benefit in putting a guy who's been out a month in over Hill, who has been mostly effective since they signed him. I think it is a miracle we are here. But this is not one of the dominant Yankee teams of the past. which is why this loss hurts. I wouldn't say it's a miracle. Parity is at an all-time high. Even the Dodgers, who everyone dubbed a "super team" in March have serious flaws. But, yeah; this game was there for the taking and they totally pissed it away. Now you have to win 4/6 instead of 3/6. Not ideal.

We're getting swept aren't we. no but unless judge can wake up the odds are against us. Relievers used to be our strong suit now they are not. Starters need to go deeper The pitchers held the best offense in baseball to one earned run over 9 innings. That should be enough to win a game.

Our defense was bad but we walked a bottom of the order guy then gave up a single to a player who had been 0-2. It is that which cost us this game not the final pitch by Nestor. We are really blaming the wrong reliever.

obviously a second guess but bringing in nestor was a disaster. a terrible pitch right in a LH happy zone. but too many poor fielding plays contributed. besides nestor the bullpen certainly wasn't crisp. 3.1 IP 3 H 0 R 1 BB before Nestor came in. What more do you want?

Yanks blow game 1 twice, have to go back to the drawing board tomorrow.
Carlos Rodon starts game 2 for the Yanks. Rodon was 16-9 with a 3.96 ERA in the regular season. In the playoffs, he fell apart in the 4th inning in his start against the Royals, threw 6 outstanding innings against the Guardians for a win in game 1. pitched 4 2/3 solid innings in his 2nd start against them in game 5. He's 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA in 13 2/3 innings in 3 starts in the postseason this year. Rookie NPB big money free agent Yoshinobu Yamamoto throws for the Dodgers. He was 7-2 in the regular season with an ERA of 3.00 in 18 starts. In the playoffs, Yamamoto got hammered in game 1 in the NLDs by the Padres, but the Dodgers' lineup bailed him out of a loss. In game 5, he pitched five shutout innings, getting the 2-0 win to clinch that series. In the NLCS vs. the Mets, gave up 2 runs in 4 1/3 innings, and couldn't make it through 5 for the winas the Dodgers pummeled the Mets in game 4. He's 1-0 in the postseason, with an ERA of 5.11.
Game 2 preview done, I'll check notifications.

We are really blaming the wrong reliever. So, had Nestor gotten Freeman to pop out for the final out of the game instead of the grand slam, we still would have lost?

We are really blaming the wrong reliever. You can pick any of those. Gleyber's goof gave away the lead. If he keeps his head about him, maybe/probably get the W. The walk and then going to Nestor were both probably fatal. It's like Gleyber's goof was terminal cancer and going to Nestor was the ultimately fatal heart attack.

We are really blaming the wrong reliever. Both were huge mistakes. Cant expect to win at this point in the season with those kind of blunders. Hill should have been the one to begin the inning is the bottom line. He has had success the post season. Easy choice for me.
