Just my 2 cents... I expect the Yankees to make a competitive offer. But, if he wants the highest offer I think he signs with the Mets. That’s would be a nightmare… If Hal is anything like his old man (I believe he is) he’s not going to let that happen! I think after losing the WS and Judges terrible post season the Yankees need to make a big splash… it’s all about filling those seats at the stadium. Hate to say but we need to retain our new toy! Soto: “I could have gotten $650M/15 from the Mets, but I chose to stay with the Yankees for $7.5M/15 because I love the fans on the Bronx Bomber Forum. They been beddy, beddy good…to me. Each one will chip in a few million for me.” 🤓

That's what Boras is hoping for: a bidding between the Mets and Yankees for his client. $$$$$$

It's not just filling the seats which they would probably do with or without Soto. This may be dumb, but I was thinking about official MLB Soto jersey sales. How much do the Yankees make every time a Yankee Soto jersey is sold??? Do you think they make $3/jersey? I don't know how much they make from jersey sales, but the revenue is split among all 30 teams with the team the player actually plays for getting the highest percentage. I just don't know what it is.

I know what you're say, but there wasn't strict luxury tax when George was the owner. For what it's worth, I think if the money is close Soto will re-sign with the Yankees.

Sign Soto, let Cole walk, then start rebuilding around Soto, Judge, Volpe, Wells, Schmidt, Dominguez, and Gil over the longer term I totally agree...and with the money saved by not picking up Cole's option, go after Burnes.

Seems like a very unionized agreement where the elite teams and players are penalized by having to share equally with the lesser ones. MLB seems to do a lot off this. I've been asking for a salary floor for a long time so that small market teams had to spend a minimum amount on salaries. With all the revenue sharing in baseball I would think some small market teams are doing better than just keeping teir head above water without making much of an effort to compete, of course I might be wrong.

Some of these small market owners are pocketing the revenue sharing money because they're not forced to spend it.

What does he do well besides hit? Play defense in the outfield? Not really. A demon on the basepaths? No. For that kind of money, I'd like to have a four or five tool player. That ain't him.

There may be 1 or 2 of those guys in all of MLB. Give me the best hitter available that is good at all the other skills. There is a reason he will be so highly coveted. If George was still around he would slap Hal upside the head and tell him to just get it done. The whole Hal and payroll drama has to just end if they ever want to keep up the standard. The Mets and Dodgers have owners that understands this.

My first question is, where are these available four and five tool players? Soto hits for power, hits for average, has a top of the league on-base percentage, has a good arm, plays nearly every game, doesn't go into long slumps, and is great in the clutch. And, we know he can play in New York. Many believed that Soto would be a liability in the outfield, but he was actually quite serviceable. According to Baseball-Reference, the only comparable player for his age is Ted Williams. Not many middle of the order hitters are demons on the base paths.

AND Soto plays every game which is huge. The Yankees spend more time nursing injuries on the IL than plaing.
