My ex-wife’s maiden name was Bannister. I fired her, too...And I sure wouldn’t have waited ten more days...

Behind the scenes news for the Sox. Some Int’l news: Frankie Thon left the Angels to become the new Mariners int’l scouting director. Mets int’l director Chris Becerra is set to leave for the Red Sox, though not official yet. Becerra is widely seen as one of the best directors in the game, tough loss for the Mets. More sources indicate Becerra will work under Red Sox SVP/AGM Eddie Romero, with added security of a better deal now being attractive vs. uncertainty of what may happen with new Mets GM.

I always liked Chili. As a player he was a notch below stardom, but he was a switch hitter with moderate speed and power. As a coach, well I dunno what to think...but somehow it carries over and I hate to hear that he got canned. The Cubs led the majors in LOB...

At least I suppose we’re not as alone as perhaps we thought this season in having a problem with LOB... I heard a stat where Baltimore was the only team to score one run or less more often than the Cubs, which is really strange when you consider how much talent is on Chicago's roster. Chili paid the price for this failure.

Interesting that Joe turned down probably quite a few million rather than take on the challenge of managing the Reds. I am sure he will show up in the dugout somewhere in the next few years.

Probably had other prospects in other cities, or just didn’t care to live in Cincy. Having lived 80 miles south of Cincy for three unpleasant years, I get that...I have to imagine the climate to be quite similar to that of Paris, KY...The culture? Hopefully a bit less Neanderthal...Yes. It must be at least some better...

Since the Reds are scrubs, they’ll also likely have a team with mostly young players, especially after this year’s winter meetings. That may not have appealed to him... he’s been there, been canned from it...
