Red Sox, Yanks miffed at Indians' acquisition of Josh Donaldson
The issue, according to the report, is the unclear health status of Donaldson, who has not played in the majors since May 28 because of a calf injury. The former American League MVP began a minor league rehab assignment on Aug. 29 and was placed on revocable trade waivers by the Blue Jays that same day. He was traded to Cleveland just before the Aug. 31 deadline, meaning he is eligible to play for the Indians in the postseason.
By rule, a player must be certified as healthy in able to be placed on trade waivers. The Athletic reported that following a dispute with the Blue Jays over his health, Donaldson agreed he was healthy after the MLB Players Association got involved in the process, allowing Toronto to place him on waivers.
Donaldson still has not appeared in a game for the Indians and was placed back on the 10-day disabled list on Sept. 3, starting another minor league rehab assignment.
This unusual sequence, according to The Athletic, irritated multiple other teams, specifically those that may have to contend with Donaldson playing for the Indians in the AL playoffs.
"I guess he got reinjured on the plane," an unnamed executive told The Athletic.

IMHO, MLB should allow the trade, but disallow post-season participation. Even though the Yankees had a similar situation with Gary Sanchez earlier this season, which I have my own suspicions about, that situation didn’t have a specification odor thst the one with Donaldson does, nor did it directly impact potential playoff roster situations...
From what I’ve read, Donaldson is not popular either his own team mates. Injuns might be disrupted by this acquisition as much as helped...

Since Brandon Drury was traded away, I assume he's had additional health problems. B-R does no show any MiLB activity for him outside of the Yankees system and he has appeared in 8 games for the Jays, going 4 for 26 (.151/.241/.231). Imagine if he hadn't been injured when he was, we may never have seen Andujar until September. The old addition by subtraction method sure worked in this case...I have to admit, that I was rooting for Drury, given his health issues and was hoping he had torn the Jays system apart and was now up with the team and showing that he was well. But that's not what I found...

In some seasons, Jake Cave might have an outside change at Rookie of the Year. He's only played in 72 games (prior to tonight) and has hit .257/.307/.476. He's rapped a dozen doubles and hit 10 HR, while playing 405 of his 512 innings in CF for the Twins...Good for Jake! He's still showing some pop...and has an OPS+ of 109...

Yet another reason Don Mattingly is my favorite all time player. Great to see the fan beat cancer.
