Boston has a day/night doubleheader today with Detroit to make up for last night's rainout. Let's hope they have a couple of 14-inning games to wear down that pitching staff. Orioles backup catcher Jesus Sucre threw a one-two-three ninth inning on nine pitches against the top of the order while the O's were getting blown out by the White Sox. His fastest pitch was clocked at 69.3 MPH. Bryce Harper was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the Phillies game against the Mets. The home plate ump really was bad, but distributed his bad calls pretty evenly. Anyway, it was the twelfth ejection of Harper's career, putting him second to Matt Kemp with 14 among active players. Kemp has been around six years longer than Harper, so Bryce has a much better Adjusted Heave-Ho Ratio (AHHR) than Matt. Jake Arrieta was pissed at Harper for getting ejected:
“Look, I mean, he's got to understand we need him in right field,” Arrieta told reporters, according to Philly.com. “I don't care how bad the umpire is. He wasn't great for either side. I'm out there trying to make pitches, and he misses some calls. So what? We need [Harper] out there.”

While it's easy to find ejection numbers for managers -- Bobby Cox is the easy winner with 161,then John McGraw with 132 and a tie between Earl Weaver and Leo Durocher at 94 -- finding ejection data for players is much more difficult. Near as I can determine, the all-time leader here is old-time Cubs second baseman Johnny "The Crab" Evers with 50, followed by the much more recent Gary Sheffield with 33.
Evers may be the Cy Young of ejections with an unreachable number, but Harper is still young enough to challenge Sheffield for the runner-up slot.

Harper has 12. Maybe he can challenge Shef if he gets crankier as he gets older. [img class="smile" alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/fcnNQOhDRpAUbgaHxUdZ.gif"]

The umpire with the most ejections dished is Bill Klem, with a whopping 256. To be fair, Klem has also upped more games than anyone else in history. A guy named Cy Rigler is second with 191.
The active ump with the most ejections is none other than the lovable Joe West with 151...

I would think Larry Bowa would be pretty high up the list, but I don't have time right now to look into it. For some reason I love this subject! And as a general rule I don't even like high-strung players to root for, I just like something that keeps me awake. Cognitive dissonance, I think it is. Just like I always enjoyed going over the NHL players with the most penalty minutes. Always had a soft spot for the Tie Domi-Tiger Williams types.
Yeah, I know it hurts the team to get ejected, it's immature, it's stupid, somebody could put an eye out, it's bad for the kiddies to see, blah blah blah. But unless it's my team being hurt, I enjoy watching pissed-off athletes in action. Worst thing hockey ever did was put in the Third Man In rule. That and helmets.

I assume he went here to avoid someone being able to hit the ball.

Sale was a bit better today than he has been, but not great. 5 innings, 2ER, 5H, 2BB. Threw right at 100 pitches. Struck out 10. Some guy named Brewer gave up 3 to the Tigers in the top of the 8th. Tigers up 6-3 going to the top of the 9th.

Miguel Cabrera has yet to hit a home run this year. I remember someone on the board saying last year that the bicep injury he suffered may end up really sapping him. I hope he is able to reach 500...he is only 35 away.

Players you wanted the Yankees to go after in the off-season...
Cory Kluber is 2-2; 5.88
Carrasco has a 6.00 ERA and had to come out after 4 innings tonight with a knee injury.
Keuchel and his over-priced ass is still waiting for someone to pay him...Probably settling in for a summer of playing video games...
