I'm guessing Chance Adams won't be starting against Baltimore this weekend.

The good news is that we split with the Marlins in spite of going 3-16 with runners in scoring position and hitting .210. That's the bad news as well. I can't help but believe that if and when we get our guys healthy those numbers will improve. However we weren't a good team hitting with RISP even when healthy but that is not quite as critical when you are hitting home runs. Do we not have somebody, somewhere that can hit over the Mendoza line(that would be an amazing improvement over Robinson) and field a little in right field? Where is Tom Tresh when you need him?

You missed some of the good news. We held the Marlins under 10 runs yesterday in spite of looking like a beer softball league team in the field...

I really like the young man....he answered some tough questions with aplomb, instead of ducking out....best wishes for him....I have shared that I think the Yankees should begin to move on from their expectation that he will some day be a productive 1B....that means a concerted effort to find a replacement...through trade, or FA, or moving a youngster with a good bat to that position....this is just an opinion....

The fate of Greg Bird may be one of the most polarizing subjects on the current Yankee roster. One of the others may be the fate of Gary Sanchez. Now, we’re getting some commentary linking the two as some are suggesting that Sanchez learn to play 1st base. I’d like to see both of them succeed at their current positions, though neither has contributed to this 2018 team in a meaningful way. I like being patient with Bird, but it is painful in the near term. It wouldn’t surprise me all that much if he hit ten HR in the next week, nor if he continues to drag his bat through the strike zone, and chase pitches out of it. The opportunity to send him down to AAA to regain his timing and confidence has passed for the time being. The lack of healthy bodies almost dictates that his name is scrawled on the lineup card daily in hopes he’ll find the magic in his bat...

I have no problem with continuing to run him out there....who else is there?....and why?...I see some chinks, ruptures really, in what has been overall a good job by Cashman...
1. Why have the Yankees over-committed to the belief that Bird would be a long-time solution at 1B?.....there has been little if any effort to build an alternative to him...I still see some blindness there which makes me concerned...
2. The Yankees had, not long ago, a seeming plethora of young outfielders that were traded or lost in Rule 5 or otherwise gone....at a time we needed an outfielder the best that could be done was Shane Robinson....
3. Going into this season there was a glaring need for starting pitching....it seemed to even a distant and casual observer like myself that they should go hard after Gerrit Cole....I still wonder why not....
The injuries have brought even more into focus the fragile construction of the roster...I will be disappointed if the weaknesses that are so apparent are not addressed this winter...…..can one imagine where this team would be if it were not for two rookie infielders exploding on the scene?

I would assume first base is the only position he plays so it will have to be there. As others have said we don't have another option apparently at this time. Sanchez may be another story. Players, like people, can improve but he didn't impress me behind the plate. I would bet others would agree. I have to believe he hasn't completely forgot to hit and will break out of his season long hitting slump. It is the runs he costs us while catching that concern me the most.

I am not worried about Sanchez....he has a bat which will come around...and with the DH, he has a lineup spot, even if he is only a backup catcher...
Bird is doing the best he can...whether it is the result of injuries, or a fragile body or just not quite having the hitting skill to be productive at this level...he has fallen short, while having spurts of production that tantalize and have resulted in an expectation that will probably not be realized.....
I blame the Yankees for their handling of the 1B position....what is even more concerning for me as a fan is the comments of the other good people posting here that, if replicated in the Yankee front office, will continue to have an expectation beyond reality...

I agree with you utahyank about Sanchez's bat coming around, hopefully right after he comes off the DL. I assume Stanton will move back to the primary DH, as he was before. We will then have to live with Sanchez being the primary catcher, and his defense scares me a lot.
