10:45am: The Yankees have formally announced the trade.
Aug. 31, 10:37am: The Yankees and Giants will split the $2.4MM remainder of McCutchen’s salary, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. He notes that it’s not clear whether it’ll be a perfectly even split of that sum, but it’s “in that range.”
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden tweets that right-hander Juan De Paula will be the second prospect going from New York to San Francisco alongside Avelino. The 20-year-old righty currently ranks 26th on MLB.com’s list of the Yankees’ top 30 prospects.
Aug. 30: The Yankees and Giants have struck a trade that would send veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen to New York, per ESPN.com’s Buster Olney (Twitter link). Joel Sherman of the New York Post (Twitter links), who first reported that an agreement was close, says that if finalized, the deal will send two prospects — including young infielder Abiatal Avelino — to San Francisco.

Yankees lose nothing by making this trade. Both prospects would of been gone after the season. Cash strikes again.

Love the trade, even if Cutch isn't what he used to be. Seems like a fantastic guy to have in the locker room and will be a great platoon bat with Gardy.

….love this deal....we needed a better bat than Robinson could provide, and Cashman got him...we are quite RH heavy already, but both the Voit and McCutchen acquisitions should help the team...

If only we had Jacoby Ellsbury. Then we'd show 'em...Then, they'd know the Yankees... struggle with basic math...

Gardner is really struggling since the All Star Break with a .201/.290/.292 slash line, so you could make the case that he's just a 4th or 5th OF and should be a bench player if and when Judge comes back.

Were it not for the presence of Shane Robinson, I would argue that now.

We need someone to get thrown out stealing as a pinch runner in a key moment that either decides whether we make the playoffs or ends a playoff series for us. I’d hate for that to be on of our regulars...🙀

Yankees should always consider how weird the players that have beards will look if they have to shave...Makes McCutch look a bit younger. Maybe he'll see that in the mirror and light a fire under his ass...
