I'll take it! Though I'm worried about what this means for Judge's timetable.

McCutchen certainly seems to be past his prime, but at least he HAD a prime, and he's much better than the Sugar Man...

He's getting on base at a decent clip at least

McCutchen is certainly an upgrade over Sir Shane. Wouldn't it be ironic if McCutchen becomes a Yankee and a week later Clint Frazier is finally cleared to resume playing? Frazier then gets buried again.

But if there’s any chance to get Judge back this season at all, we need him at his best for the WC game and any playoff games beyond that. So if this helps that happen and keeps us from running guys like Robinson and Walker out there in RF then this is a great trade.

In reality, McCutcheon could still have some decent ball left in him. He's only 31, but there seemed to be a switch that went off for him at age 29 that saw his level of play drop from very good bordering on great to a bit better than average bordering on good...He can still be a big help, I would think...

I don't see much downside to this at all. Gardner looks worn out and McCutchen could give him some rest. Even if/when Judge comes back McCutchen should get plenty of playing time. For those that know how good is he defensively? Watching Walker in right field is scary(although he has great value because of his ability to play everywhere).

Frazier then gets buried again. I think if Frazier comes back he'll get a significant amount of Gardner's playing time. Boone theory that if he rested Gardner more frequently he'd remain fresh for the late season push and playoffs is not looking good as Brett's average has tumbled into the .230's. For some reason, Gardner seems to have one stretch every season where he's hot as fire and you begin to think, "this is it! This is going to be his one great season", and then he goes into a slump and is never the same afterward. He's probably done more with less than 90% of the players that ever played the game, but still tantalized that there was more in there that we never got to see...

If only we had Jacoby Ellsbury. Then we'd show 'em...Then, they'd know the Yankees...

From what I hear, McCutchen is no longer a good defender but he's passable in RF. A former center fielder. Much better than Walker that's for sure!
