An explanation of the A’s strategy tonight. Mengden had a great May this year, allowing only 7 runs in 41.2 innings(1.51 ERA), including a s 2 hit shutout followed by an 8 inning appearance. After that he had a couple of rough starts followed by missing the 2nd half of June, all of July, and most of August. He’s being stretched back out, and in his last two appearances coming into tonight he only threw 2 innings on each game.
At least the A’s strategy may make a tiny bit of sense, though why not just start out with Mengden, unless they want him to get a shot at the win?
On the other hand, i’ll Have to wait until later in the game to understand the genius of the Boone lineup...
