It seems to me that when Stanton is hot it doesn’t matter who the pitcher is, what the score, situation, circumstance, or who the opponent is he’s not going to be denied. But when he’s cold, there could be a 9 year old girl pitching with no fielders behind her and he’d strike out on crap out of the strike zone...He didn’t stay hot nearly as long as he did last year...
one other frightening aspect for me is that he’s not really missed any time now for two straight seasons. He’s due for a nice trip or two to the 60 day DL... the more he plays in the OF, the more likely I think he is to get racked up, but I don’t feel comfortable he’ll stat on the field even as a DH...

Very true regarding Stanton's extreme streakiness. Did you have the feeling that Stanton hit better when he played the field? It seemed that way to me.

That’s fair. I think the 8 game regular season difference and the 2 game post season difference can be explained by our injuries which is bad luck and their starting pitching performing better than ours when it counted. For a team with 111 wins so far this year they do have some noticeable flaws. It will be interesting to see what Cashman does this winter to build on our success and address our weaknesses. I just feel that the Red Sox overachieved by a lot while we underachieved. But baseball games aren't won on paper. Cashman will have to improve the starting pitching but it'll be tough. There aren't too many exciting name out there in free agency. And I don't see many realistic trade targets that won't require giving up more than what we are comfortable with. Hopefully, Cashman has some tricks up his sleeve. I totally agree with this. I just noticed the yankees didn't hit 1 HR in either home game. The season was really decided in the two months the yankees were injured. That let the sox get away.

The season was really decided in the two months the yankees were injured. That let the sox get away. Health and injuries are always a part of the baseball season. Health, in a sense is also a skill. Without it teams depend on their depth, which is also a major item in the recipe of team construction. What happened to Yankees at first base for most of the year was due to a predictable failure. We all knew Bird may not return st full strength. Due to self imposed financial constraints, the Yankees were not constructed fully to withstand his failure. When Judge was injured the team was left in a similar postion and for the same reason. There were other injuries and situations that were much less predictable, like the slump of Gary Sanchez, though his past behavior pattern did indicate that he COULD fall into poor habits, packing on weight, etc.. The team survived in part because when there were failures and injuries at 2B and 3B they had MiLB players that were first denied roster spots that were able to fill the gaps at low expense. Boston kept almost everyone healthy. When they didn’t they were able to plug gaps with players that played at replacement level or above. They didn’t need to endure lengthy stretches of playing sub. .200 hitters at power positions like 1B, and RF...nor even at 2B like the Yankees did. The RS did stink offensively behind the plate, but the Yankees unexpected and massive issues there failed to allow us to counter that weakness...

I'm going through the Yankees baseball season over blues. Nothing to watch on a daily basis. And I keep replaying that 9th inning in my head. We were so close to forcing a game 5.

Kind of cool how Mo works with fire departments. I like that. How I miss that guy. As classy and humble of a man who ever put on the pinstripes. I have no doubt he would still be mowing them down with that cutter if he felt like being out there. One of the most amazing and admirable players I have ever seen. Time for Cooperstown next year. Talking about Mo helps take my mind off this *&%# ALDS loss. Hey, and howzabout that Mick!!!

But...we didn’t... odd how if we had forced that fifth hand we’d have been in another winner takes all situation, just like when we best Oakland... So close, yet so far...But again...we didn’t...sigh...so goes baseball...

It doesn't fill the gap, no question. But there's something to watch pretty much every night. And it's a great sport. (Better pre-helmet and third-man in rule, but that's an argument for another time.) I truly believe that a guy who loves one sport can easily train himself to love almost any competitive action. When my work took me to the Middle East for many years, pre-internet, the only sports I could get were on British-based Star TV. I got so I looked forward to Premier League and Formula One and cricket. Not the Yankees, for sure, but it's funny how you start rooting for somebody. I even used to go to the camel races in Kuwait!!!

I always used to think it would be really cool to own and ride a camel. When lived those three unfortunate years in Kentucky, there was a farm nearby that had a half dozen dromedaries that were usually pretty close to the road, shere their barn was located.
I suppose that would be the proper camel here in Pueblo, while up in the higher elevations the bactrian might fare better with it’s longer coat. Of course then you might have to put up with a wife that could become a real pain as a rear-hump driver.
Come to think of it, unless it was going to be regular transportation, I’d rather pass. My ex-wife got horses when we were in KY. Since we didn’t ride (other than a few wasted lessons), I don’t want anything around that spends it’s entire day eating and pooping...

Damn pipps, it sounds like you've lead quite an interesting life among your travels. As for me, don't worry I'll be okay. I always go through a little funk when Yankees baseball ends. Like Bartlett Giamatti wrote and I'm sure everyone has read:
“[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”

If we forced Game 5, everyone would be chiding Cora for using Sale in relief in Game 4 limiting his availability in the deciding game. Maybe we'd see our good friend Price again.
