GF Said: They offered 5 years $100,000,000 for Corbin. Yankees fans are remarkably spoiled when a Yankees fan can suggest with a straight face that offering someone $100,000,000 and $20,000,000 a year is not “a serious offer”. It makes one wonder if those fans could even be baseball fans if they rooted for a team that didn’t spend a shitload of money every year. ----------------- For a start, the Yankees have more money than anyone else. They make more on concessions, TV, hell, even parking than any other team. Unless you are related to Hal, I don't understand why a Yankee fan wouldn't wonder why the team continually allows others to outbid them for pitching. First Verlander, then Cole because they couldn't assemble an appropriate trade package (not including Torres or Andujar it could have still been done I bet), now Corbin. So the answer is to sign a guy 36 years old or a guy with 2 TJ surgeries? Again, maybe they are saving money for Machado, but I still don't get why they couldn't have both. The idea was to be at or surpass Boston's level this offseason. This is a win now club. The window is open. In six years, Corbin will be 35, Judge will only be 32, Torres will be 28, Andujar will be 30. All still in a productive zone age wise. I don't get being cheap at this stage in the team's development. All they would have had to do is match the Nats offer. Market price as defined by the offer. Like it or not, 100 million for 5 years is below market price in 2018-19 for a pitcher like Corbin. To deny that reality and expect results is unrealistic. Apparently the Phillies had the next best offer, not the Yankees.

I’m wondering what it might take to pry one of Pittsburgh’s Jameson Taillon or Trevor Williams away? They’re both 26, and each went 14-10 with solid peripherals with the Pirates last season. Would Gray + German or Loaisiga perhaps be intriguing for the Bucs? That could potentially give them two starters for the price of one..

Grey to Milwaukee makes a lot of sense. Chi -- since you are sort of in that neck of the woods, has that possibility been raised? And who might the Yankees get in return? It seems at this point, given Cashman's off-season remarks, that it would be rather awkward for Gray to remain with the Yankees. There was a rumor on the net that Cashman was talking to the Brewers about Gray but they didn't mention who the Yanks would get back in return. It will be a surprise if Grey isn't dealt soon.

For the most part, it would appear that the Brewers are an odd combination of players way to good for the Yanks to trade Gray for and players we wouldn’t want to give him up for.., The possibilities of Milwaukee offers are Thames and Braun. The two players on the team that the Yankees might realistically covet and hope to get are Jefferies and Hader. For Hader, we’d need to up the ante with a decent prospect. For Jeffress, since the Brewers would be trading high, maybe Gray a few dollars would get the job done...Hader fanned 143 last year in 81.1 innings. Incredible stuff...

Well, the Red Sox would need to believe that since he is their number one target. His signing would still be best described as high risk I would think.

Rumor being reported is the Sox are willing to go 4 years $68m for Eovaldi. I think if you buy in bulk you should get a discount on Tommy John surgery, so that’s nice.

I’d rather take a chance on Gray at his age and potential than sign Happ at 36 in a multi year deal, but that’s me and I’m never around him so what would I know. CC has said publicly that Gray should be given another shot, but maybe they’re just buddies.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Red Sox are in agreement on a contract with Nathan Eovaldi. Fancred's Jon Heyman heard Wednesday that the contract would be for four years and worth around $17 million per year, though there's nothing official yet on the financial framework. The Red Sox acquired Eovaldi from the Rays this past July and watched him post a 3.33 ERA and 48/12 K/BB ratio over 54 regular-season innings along with a dominant 1.61 ERA over 22 1/3 innings in the playoffs. The 28-year-old right-hander also drew interest this winter from the Yankees, Astros, Phillies, and Padres, among others.

Whatever the line is on the Sox breaking even on that deal, I’ll take the under.
