Yeah, another good one Chi. Back in the day there was also Larvell Blanks and Mickey Klutts (though he was mostly a third baseman -- why do we remember these guys?) I remember guys from 30 years ago better than a lot of today's players.

I like Paxton but worth noting hes a 30 year old who has never thrown more than 160 innings. Im okay with the trade but just hope he can stay healthy.

Eovaldi needs to come back to NY! And, sign Corbin, too. Never enough starting pitchers, and someone always has a DL stint. Looking pretty good right now, though: Severino Tanaka Paxton Sabathia

Yeah, another good one Chi. Back in the day there was also Larvell Blanks and Mickey Klutts (though he was mostly a third baseman -- why do we remember these guys?) I remember guys from 30 years ago better than a lot of today's players. We remember these guys because they need us to remember them. Without us, they die in baseball history. Prior to 1994 and the season-ending strike I believe I knew more about the “other” teams in baseball than 99.9 % of the other fans of the sport. I lived to follow each team’s roster. I was aware of at least the general basic skill sets of the players, even their basic (beyond forking pct) fielding skills. Arm strength, range and so on. That damned strike took that away from me. I decided st that point that if the owners and the players didn’t care about the fans enough to find a way to play that season to the end and then fix their issues... well... I wasn’t strong enough to give up baseball, but that was when I decided I was s Yankee fan ONLY and couldn’t care less about the rest of the teams. Now, I glance at the other rosters several times per year, but I no longer know the current day Mickey Klutts’s. Any way, by remembering, the elder of us have extended the baseball lives of these guys to the next generation by another 30-40 years... even more sometimes. Gary Geiger. There’s another for you. Now the younger posters will perhaps remember these guys for yet another 15-20 years...and mention them to someone else who might remember for 10 more years before they simply become forgotten listings on Baseball References. We give them life! We are superheroes to them !!!

I doubt Cashman, always leery of the free agent market will find a pitcher there. Maybe the could package Gray and Frazier. Those two to the Reds for Scooter Gennett? Are the Yankees are ready for another Scooter roaming the middle infield?

Gimme all the Scooters, Buckys and Shootys you can find...Then we can add a few Bubbas and Chicos too, and maybe a guy named Speedball and another named Sparky or Lefty. That’s how pennants are won, dang it!!!

Now for the down side of the Paxton trade. Someone mentioned his checkered health history, and indeed his similarity scores do reveal some guys that blew out their arms and became quite worthless on the pitching mound. Mark Prior. Atlee Hammaker. There are some others on the list, but not to belabor that side, he also has strong similarity scores with Cory Kluber and Luis Severino. And get this one, he has a strong similarity by age score to J A Happ. Did anyone here know that Happ has NEVER pitched 200 innings in a season? It’s true, you can look it up !!!
So the trade comes with some risk, but if Paxton can find the high road in the two extremes, we’ll have a star. If not...we’ll have something else to complain about... 🤪

All pitchers come with risk. The jury was split on the future of Sheffield as well. Swanson may or may not have been put on the 40 man roster and the outfielder wouldn’t have been protected, so not too painful of a trade and one that had to get done at that price. Now sign Corbin and kick the tires on Machado. If he passes the face test with Cash and Hal and has a public come to Jesus moment with the media and fans, forgive and get that done as well. If he’s really a prick, move on. Let’s go after number 28 already, it’s been 10 years. Let’s stop all of the, if this and if that crap, and really put the best quality team on the field.

That would have me more concerned. At the same time, if he continues to be on the DL with random injuries in NY, the fans and media will destroy him given how others have been treated.

We hate to see Prospects go; however this was a good trade as we recommended in Part One of my Post on the Hot Stove Thread.
Now sign FA Ottavino for our BP & Corbin and follow the rest of our initial recommendations (which Cash didn't do with Gardner & CC = Go figure).

Well, we will see if Hal is serious about winning another championship in 2019, or staying under the $207 million is most important, because adding Paxton alone and replacing BP pieces isn't nearly enough to match up with Boston. Now if the idea is to be contenders and see what happens, I totally get it.

I wish we had gone after Verlander when he was on Detroit. Somethings don't work out. In hindsight I wish that, but at the time he looked washed up to me. He turned things around with Houston via whatever magic they employ to greatly increase your spin rate. They tilt the planet
