I simply don't think Cashman is interested in big ticket free agency. Without pressure from GS, when has he gone after them (ones that cost a lot of money)? Rarely, but just rarely.

Before the 2009 and 2014 seasons each Cashman threw almost $500,000,000 in long term contracts at free agents. That’s unusual behavior for someone who isn’t interested in big ticket free agency.

So every 5 years he goes wild That makes 2019 look good... The real question is if those years reflect his own views or those of his boss GS. And whether he will go after big name free agents in the future. I don't think he will, at least from other teams.

Since George was dead in 2014, was that like a Ghost of Christmas Past scenario that had the crazy old man making the decisions that offseason in your version of the story?

How much money on free agents not already on the Yankees has Cashman spent since 2014? How many significant free agents on other teams has he brought here since 2014?

How much money on free agents not already on the Yankees has Cashman spent since 2014? How many significant free agents on other teams has he brought here since 2014? Honestly, don't be so tedious. You're asking a question about information that isn't exactly a secret. Also not a secret is that when a team blows $500,000,000 of long term contracts in one winter, they're kind of loaded up for a few years, they don't do it every year. And anyone who's been a Yankee fan knows that they've held the line on payroll the last few years, and we know why. So the question doesn't make sense. This is the part of the discussion where you admit that you were wrong, not where you dig a deeper hole.

Well, if the Yankees expect to compete with Boston next season, they will have to either trade or pay for another front line starter and sign either Machado or Harper (if they sign him, trade an OFer?). I don't think they are going anywhere getting some of the crappy players I have heard mentioned to fill in for Didi.

I don't think they are going anywhere getting some of the crappy players I have heard mentioned to fill in for Didi. What’s your take on Jean Segura (if we could obtain him reasonably, of course)...My take is that he has below average range, but is steady afield. He’s got over .300 three years in a row, but isn’t likely to come close to his career high of 20 HR in YS. Yet, he’s only going to be 29, and can still steal 15-20 bags for you... He would be filler, and perhaps a wise choice if the strategy would be to play him at 2B and move Torres to SS. Once that’s done it may be hard to reverse...So does the team let Didi move on? Move him to 3rd base? Lots of juggling going on in this scenario...
