Yankees land James Paxton in trade, send top prospect to Mariners
The Mariners and Yankees completed a trade Monday that sends ace left-hander James Paxton to New York for three prospects, including top-rated lefty Justus Sheffield.
The other two prospects going to Seattle are outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams and right-handed pitcher Erik Swanson.

Love the trade. Now sign Corbin and maybe Happ and our rotation will be nasty!

This is the kind of trade World Series contenders make. The Yanks clearly needed an upgrade in their rotation.

So what free agent pitcher would you sign? Corbin Eovaldi Happ If it is one of those and assuming a reasonable contract (whatever that means), Eovaldi first, Happ 2nd, Corbin third (and a distant third). I can easily see Corbin being a much more expensive Sonny Gray Part II.

I’m thinking this clears the way for Corbin since he only costs money. They won’t need Happ now. He’s 36 anyway and anything beyond a year is risky. I do think they will sign Machado also.

Put me in the thumbs up category too. I know there is a chance Sheffield could develop into a decent major league pitcher, but Paxton is an established commodity, a lefty power pitcher, just turned 30 two weeks ago and is under control for two more years. Definitely shows the Yanks are committed to going for it next year. I know there is a difference between being a good pitcher and being a good pitcher for the Yankees, but this seems like a sensible deal.
Of course I had the same attitude toward Sonny Gray, so what do I know?

I doubt Cashman, always leery of the free agent market will find a pitcher there. Maybe the could package Gray and Frazier.

Love Paxton but wish we could get an ace pitcher in the mode of Sale, deGrom, Scherzer, etc. I would normally include Kershaw but I think he's on his way down of course I thought that of Verlander as well. Will need someone to match up with those aces come playoff time.
