Tequila wanted a Pet Thread and Inger mentioned it too. So here it is.
PLEASE, NO POLITICS!!!
"Tequila, I just started a Pet Thread in your name. Are you happy?
T--"No."
"Why Not?'
T--"Screw the thread; want more TREATS."

In addition to Brandy, we have two cats.
Gypsy Wynd is a calico, about 10 pounds and 5 years or so old. She was born feral, a barn cat at the farm of our veteranarian’s sister. She was born with a disease that is the equivalent of AIDS in cats. The vet treated her, and she had to test negative before we could take her. We first saw her when Brandy had to stay at the vet overnight. We went in to visit Brandy one day and she was reaching for Ruthie through the cage, so I knew she would be ours as soon as I saw that...
She’s quite a fruitcake of a kitty cat. She runs away from us most of the time, but there are times she’ll lie on her back on the area rug in the living room and squirm around wanting us to pet her belly. Like all calico cats, she has one extra toe on each foot.
We also have a long-haired orange tabby (Mr. Cooper) that we recently got from a local rescue. He’s probably between 3 and 5 years old. When we got him he had such horribly matted fur that we had the back half of his body shaved down (still growing back). The hair all came off in one piece, it looked like a fox pelt.
He weighed 9.3 pounds, and in the two months or so he’s been here he’s gained 2 pounds. He was already litter trained. So had either been released to live wild or escaped from his previous owner. He’s pretty friendly, but he may have PTSD. You can be petting him and he’ll suddenly freak out and attack you.
The two cats take turns sneak-attacking each other. It’s like a game to say “I could kill you, but I won’t” they each win and lose the game several times a day. Brandy decides to chase them from time to time, but usually ignores them. Gypsy Wynd sometimes sneaks up on Brandy and gives her massages on her side or rump...

For those of you that have Dogs as Family Members, what do you feed them? How do you care for them, etc. etc. etc.? ,
Our Dogs (--Lil: A young Akita (our Alpha) --Mel: A Young Part German Shepard/Atika --Bronx: An old Blind Akita --Sheba: A mid-age Mexican Midget Dog (she runs the household)
Twice a day, we feed them the following:
--Costco Kirkland Can Food --Costco Kirkland Dry Food --Two Eggs --Two Cans of Mixed Veggies --Vitamins
The above is all mixed together. They also everyday, get treats of Milk-Bones--the ONLY treat they get. They never eat Human Food, with the exception of Sheba.
IN-ADDITION: --They get walked twice a day for at least 45-minutes/each walk. In our hot months, the late afternoon walks are limited to 15-minutes = TOO HOT. --They get brushed after each walk. --In the hot months we put bags of ice in their Large water tubs in front of a fan to help cool them down--they get ice twice a day in the tubs during the hot months. --Every other day, when being brushed, they get a spray on their coats with Apple Cider Vinegar/Water = Makes their coats shine and fights off Ticks/Fleas. --They get their yearly vaccines --They get their regular scheduled Tick/Flea pills --During the Winter months, our Compound is sprayed once a month to prevent ticks; includes the immediate area outside our compound. During the Hot Months we do this spraying at least twice a month. --They get yearly Dental Exams/Cleaning --Once a month they get a bath; sometimes more often. --They each have their own Dog House with ceiling fans plus stand-up fans and cleaned bedding --Only one dog is allowed inside = Sheba --The other dogs, we cannot allow to enter, for they go after Tequila and our two cats = Meow Meow & Buffy (both Feral Cats).
WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU ALL (in regards to the above).

Brandy gets “Gentle Giants” dry food, 2.5 grain scoops per day with a small container (the smallest ones made) of either Nutro or Rachel Ray wet food stirred in to add some flavor. She does sometimes get table scraps in place of the can, but only when I feel it’s sensible to use them as a substitute. She eats most of the food in the evening, but there is usually about .5 to 1 scoop left in the bowl that she saves for breakfast. Sometimes, but not always she will bring me her bowl and ask for a snack or additional food. Since it’s not often, I indulge her with an extra .5 scoop of dry food only when she asks for it.
The cats eat a variety of dry cat foods which I change up every time buy food. I always make sure whatever brand I buy of cat or dog foods have meat as the first ingredient.
The water bowls are side by side, but Brandy drinks only from “her” bowl, and the cats always drink out of the other one. I find that cats get very excited when the water is changed (at least twice per day, with the bowls wiped out each time) and come running when they hear me filling the bowls.
Dome, since you live in such a hot area, are you aware that cats are very heat tolerant and don’t typically even begin to feel like it’s overly warm to the point of any discomfort until temps reach about 113 degrees?
Crap, after that last paragraph I feel a little bit like Cliff Clavin. Oh well, I’m still not deleting it...
