I like your approach to the course, Inger. More scientific than mine. But on the other hand I never had to tell them what drink I needed on the nineteenth hole, where my game improved dramatically.
Most of my Maryland sports experiences involved horses (Pimlico, Laurel, Ocean Downs or, for something different, Fair Hill in your neighborhood.) In high school I used to check out Cecil County for the drag races. And lots of Orioles games.

Watching the replay. Wow. Lowry is just kicking arse with that future Craig Stadler barrel-chested torso...
The 375 yard drive that Holmes just hit on 18 reminds me of a tee shot that I once hit at King’s Deer in Monument, CO. I hit a similar downslope from a similar distance and got to pitch to the green. No birdie, did make a par. I was walking the course and when I got to the top of the hill I saw my little white speck at the bottom just in front of the green. It was a real kick!
That is a strategists’ course. I think they recommended a five iron off the tee, but that would have been boring... in those days I had a Titleist Driver that I had invested a good sum of dough on, and when I caught it right it was worth every penny. Of course JD Holmes does that almost every time. I did it so seldom as to make it a memory...

My problem was hitting it on the screws...it just wasn’t as forgiving as Taylor Made, Calloway, and Ping drivers. I continued to carry the Titleist three wood in my bag, though.

I was the opposite of you. I had a Taylor Made three wood. For a couple of years I carried a set of used Titleist irons that had been owned by and fitted for a guy that was three inches taller than me with quite long arms. My game improved immensely when I got fitted for my own irons and switched to a set of Adams Golf irons with the hybrid three and four irons. Every single club was longer, more forgiving...and by a lot...
I just never invested in a good putter though. In hindsight, that was a mistake...I had trouble finding one I liked. One day I was trying out a bunch in a golf store, missing everything it seemed. I got my hands on a Titleist putter that just wanted to sink everything. I put it back and went back to doofus-putting everything, then tried it again, with everything going to the hole like a heat seeking missile. Then I did the dumbest thing ever. I stopped to think of the other things my family could use the money for, put it back in the rack and walked out of the store.
Yes. A story of unrequited love. She’s out there somewhere wishing she could have spent her life we me, and I with she. We could have traveled the world together on the senior tour with the improvement in my game. (I was going to mention the strokes she’d give me, but that would have sounded weird)...

Props to you Dome for having the foresight to not put any money down on thr pre-tournament favorite Rory McIlroy. Holy cow, makes quadruple bogey on the first hole and finishes at eight over. He'll have to shoot a heck of a round Friday to even make the cut. PIPPS: WOW, what a Tournament to watch!!! Then Course is EATING some of them up.
In A Way it reminds me (in a way--not exactly) of the Lincoln Golf Course (Public) In S.F. that I played about once a month back in the day.
I think a very tough course with the Mist from the Fog, the Winds, thick fog, balls breaking towards Ocean, multiple downhill and uphill lies, almost always hitting from an angle, etc.
It is one of the most beautiful scenic courses in the World = Not the Course but the Ocean Views = The17th Hole I believe is the Most Scenic Hole In The World.
Yeah tough course today and the weather wasn't that bad.
Bye Bye Rory & Tiger and others...
Yeah, Boy do I remember!!!
Today's weather at The Open reminds me so MUCH of playing Lincoln Golf Course in S.F. when the weather was bad (see above) =The Rain, Winds, The Cold, Fog, Wet Grass, Wet Balls, Wet feet, Shivering, Wet Hands, Losing the Touch in your Freezing Hands, Just Miserable = Impacts every aspect of your game.
Lowry is my main hope; but with this weather who KNOWS???

Yep. Barring a Jean Van De Velde- style meltdown, Lowry has this. Not the kind of dramatic major you want, but it's always fun to watch The Open. I believe this will make 13 of the last 17 Open winners first-timers for winning a major.
Congrats to you Dome on your windfall.

David Feherty has one of the best jobs in sports. Follow the tour, on call maybe half the year, do a relaxed interview show, tell funny stories.
Of course this is only possible because he is very good at what he does.

VERY HAPPY For Lowry. He deserves it. Love the COURSE.

The Irishman wins the first British Open in Ireland since 1951 (only other time it was there). Great job by Lowry.

When Lowry and JB Holmes were the final pairing on Saturday, they looked like brothers playing a round. Beefy and bearded.
Koepka becomes only the fifth player with a top five in every major in one year, which seems hard to believe. Jack and Tiger each did it twice, Spieth did it, and, surprisingly since he never won one, Ricky Fowler.

He is affectionately (maybe not so affectionately) nicknamed "the pace car" on some golf podcasts I listen to.

Billy Casper is among the dozen or so greatest golfers in history, and he was always pleasingly plump. John Daly, Craig Stadler, Patrick Reed. The list goes on and on.
