I don't think this means much when it comes to Machado. Tulo will need a new uniform number.

According to BR, it was a deal that was too good to pass on. Nothing to do with Machado signing- or not.

Not even sure if he can play at the ML level anymore. I don’t think he can fill that need.

Not even sure if he can play at the ML level anymore. I don’t think he can fill that need. Perhaps he could win a back up role...But to count on him for 1/2 or more of the season would be folly...Maybe they want him for the role of Andujar’s late-inning defense?...

Not even sure if he can play at the ML level anymore. I don’t think he can fill that need. I mean they signed Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez in similar deals (1.1 Mil, 1.5 mil/900k) and both of them surprised and were productive (Chavez was injured a good part of the first year, but came on late and had a good second year). Its not really a big risk and maybe his ceiling what the two of them did. You have to remember Chavez had quite the injury history before coming here as well.

First things first. Can he even pass a physical? Even then, best case scenario, he can fill in somewhere, sometime. A 34 year old shortstop with tremendously reduced range doesn’t move the needle much with anyone, but for $550,000, what the hell. Maybe Tyler Wade or one of the other prospective backups fail.

I think it said he had to pass a physical for the deal to become official so the yankees aren't going into this blind.

Is it proven that he has significantly reduced range? I know the most recent injuries (and there have been a lot of them) have been in the lower half of his body but from 2015-2017 he was still in the top half of shortstops in terms of defensive runs saved (he didnt play in 2018 due to ankle problems which has to be taken into account and goes towards your point Chuck). But the point I am making is that even with all the prior injuries he endured, he was a good defensive player so Im not sure its fully proven out quite yet that hes a statue in the infield, but its becoming more likely.

Zero downside. Best case, he can bridge the gap at SS until Didi is healthy and then provide pop off the bench. Worst case, he is hurt and they paid very little for him.
And this move has nothing to do with Machado. Machado is not coming here to play SS. If the Yanks sign Machado, it is with the plan he is playing 3B and they will trade Andujar for pitching.

We will have to wait until spring training games to get most of our answers about Tulowitzki, those games will certainly will matter to him.
