I thought Harper was just stringing the Phils along, but they win the right to overpay him.
What would Trout get if he was a free agent right now?

Looking like $330mm...so much for broken free agency and owners colluding against the big stars I guess?

Well at least Machado and Harper both went to the NL.

Philly fans and Harper...that’s a clown match-up, bro. Philly fans have given Harper a tough time up to now, mainly because he plays for the Nats, the second-most-hated team in Philly after the Mets, and also because -- well, he is Bryce Harper and he sort of asks for it. They will embrace him if he performs, and make his life Hell if he doesn't. Kind of like Yankee fans do. Phillies fans, though, are not nearly as obnoxious as Eagles fans. Unlike New York, football is far and away Number One in Philly, and the fans act accordingly. But Harper will for sure be selling some tickets, at least at first.

Damn, the Phils are going for it! The Phillies will have a tough middle of the order with Hoskins, Harper and Realmuto, not to mention Segura hitting in front of them. But they still have plenty of holes, especially the starting pitching. No question though, there has been more off-season baseball talk in Philly this year than at any time in at least six or seven years.

Supposedly the hang-up was Harper/Boras wanting an opt-out after three years. Anyone seen if they got that?

I can't imagine the Angels letting him hit free agency. If there was ever a time to hand a guy a blank check, that would be it. Trout is from the Philly area and still has a home in Millville, NJ, where he grew up. They have some pipe dreams around here of the Phils getting in on him, but Trout seems to me to be in the Jeter-Gwynn-Ripken mode of a guy who wants to spend his entire career in one place. Pure uninformed speculation on my part, of course, but what fun would sports be without it?

I am shocked at no opt-out and 13 years. Holy cow. Less AAV than Machado, but apparently his goal was to top Stanton's $325 million total package. Sheesh.
