Do you support the Phillies at all, pipps?

I guess the market turns to Kimbrel and Keuchel now. You would think that would happen soon.
Adam Jones must feel like the proverbial Maytag repairman these days. I know he isn't what he once was, but I have to think he could help somebody. Maybe back to Baltimore?

I thought Harper was just stringing the Phils along, but they win the right to overpay him. What would Trout get if he was a free agent right now? Good question, Chi. I can't imagine the Angels letting him hit free agency. If there was ever a time to hand a guy a blank check, that would be it. Trout is from the Philly area and still has a home in Millville, NJ, where he grew up. They have some pipe dreams around here of the Phils getting in on him, but Trout seems to me to be in the Jeter-Gwynn-Ripken mode of a guy who wants to spend his entire career in one place. Pure uninformed speculation on my part, of course, but what fun would sports be without it? Angels have to be willing to pay him for that to happen. I guess right around that time they will finally be out from under Pujols so the stars may align.

Do you support the Phillies at all, pipps? Only within the very narrow confines of the National League. That ain't much as far as rooting interest goes. But for sure, it's just more interesting when the local team has people talking. I get so sick of Eagles talk around here. Even in the summer, unless the Phillies are doing really well, you will hear more discussion of who the Eagles back-up left tackle should be than of what the Phillies are doing. By revamping the team, you get more general baseball talk on the local media. They are strictly front-runners. But let me assure you, when the Yanks played the Phillies in the 2009 World Series, there wasn't even .00001 percent of goodwill toward the Phillies. In fact other than the Mets, there is no team I would less rather lose to in the World Series because then I would have to listen to these morons all winter. Fortunately, that is unlikely to ever happen in my lifetime.

Also, the Angels could well be moving into a new stadium at around the same time, so it would help to have their by far biggest star to market. Trout is a historically great player, but I don't see him play as often as I would like because there are only so many hours in the day to devote to baseball, the Angels are not in general a compelling team to me, and because he plays most of his games in the Pacific Time Zone so only insomniacs like Kaybli and Inger can watch him on a regular basis.

My only interest in the Phillies will be that I will probably play as them more in MLB the Show (video game) with their stacked middle of the order. Of course I play as the Yankees 99 percent of the time.

I think I'm the only dude who enjoys it when the Yankees go out to the west coast to play their games.

Yeah, I have a hard enough time staying awake for Yankee East Coast games! I would be more likely to wake up to catch the bottom of the ninth of a West Coast game.

I still can't get over the no opt-out. Seems like something he could easily have gotten, even if it was five years like Machado. But the Phillies on the hook for 13 years? I guess their owner wasn't kidding when he said he was ready to spend stupid money. Now that they are tossing money out the window, maybe the Phils will give Kimbrel his ridiculous demands as well.
