Knuckleballers don't count. Hard to argue with that.

I was thinking about the great Red Sox reliever, Dick Radatz. Did you realize that he only had three really great seasons before the Red Sox ran him into the ground, Pipps? He averaged about 2 innings per appearance for each of those three seasons, from 64-66. In ‘64 he pitched in a little more than games. In ‘65 he pitched in I think 67 games, and then in ‘66 the Sox got greedy and he pitched in 79 games, totaling 157 innings. He remained the Sox closer in ‘67, but his ERA soared to .3.91. He would never again post an ERA below the 4.00 mark and was out of the game just after just eight seasons... When he struck out about 10-11 per 9 back in the day, it was about as good in comparison to his peers as Chapman has been compared to his peers... Without looking at The Monster's stats, I have no doubt that for a brief period he was as dominant as Chapman within the context of his era. He was overpowering. I remember when Mike Marshall of the Dodgers pitched in something like 108 games. Maybe it was 110, too lazy to look it up. Amazing that guys like that were able to be effective over multiple seasons. And then there was Hoyt Wilhelm. You nailed Marshall on the button at 108. At least I think you did. I’m too lazy to look it up, too. I feel Wilhelm was as great as Mariano in the context of his era. I suppose if I could have any two relief pitchers in baseball history to build a bullpen around, I’d take those two...Who would close the games? I would say Mo. unless it was back in 1960. Then, we wouldn’t think that way. We’d just play baseball until the game was over. We’d still be hoping for a complete game every day...It’s doubtful either one of those two would pitch in more than 50 games in that age...Nobody would “get” the concept of saves...Wilhelm would probably thrive more in those conditions, and would accumulate a fair number of wins...Mariano would probably be used for 2-3 innings at a time. He’d be fine with it...The hitters would be confused. Is this guy really 40? He looks 28... If it were the year 2000, Wilhelm would be confused why he wssn’t Getting into the game in the fifth when the starter got jostled. He’d peer in with that wandering eye and the batters would be sooo confused. What IS this? Is this guy really 40? He looks older... and that would be when he was 28... Hard to believe that’s when he played in his first MLB game...

I'm at a friends house. Saw part of the game on TV but wasn't able to post. Glad we got the win. I'll be home late tomorrow (Monday) so I'll probably miss most of that game too. But go Yankees!

I bet you watched GoT, though? My friend doesn't watch it so I had to wait till 2 in the morning when everyone was asleep to stream it on my laptop. I can't believe there are only two episodes left! I can't wait to see how it ends! Were you able to watch it, Rizz?

I suppose the Hound is on the road to try to slay his brother, and Arya will pull her faceless act to get into the Red Keep. Though, the prophecy said Cersei would die by a younger brother, which could be Jaime, I think. John letting go of his Direwolf must have some symbolism for the North. Who knows, I’m waiting for the book to come out!

How great is that? What we would have hoped for from Severino in a best case scenario.

If only Severino could come back pitching like that for the second half...Wouldn’t that be amazing?...That would be the best 1-2 punch 🥊 the Yankees have had since...since...ever!!!

Actually Rizz, that isn't terribly different from what we were led to believe previously. At first they said he would be out until May with his original injury. Then with his recovery injury, they said it was a six-week setback. So I guess I was thinking sometime in July anyway. It was only a matter of time before Paxton went down, because he does pretty much every year. I was hoping he could hold off until Severino returned. But the Yankees just won't coordinate their injuries with my timetable.
