Is this the third game....yow I missed the game Monday.... It's a two game series. Today's games are a doubleheader because Monday's game was rained out. We are trying to sweep the two game series/doubleheader. |

It would be nice to get at least six strong from Paxton. Day off tomorrow, so the pen can go full tilt if need be.

I did a little research on doubleheaders. Not the kind set up by rainouts, like this one, but pre-scheduled two for the price of one twin bills.
There have been only four in this century, the most recent being September 2017 with the Rays hosting the A's.
Ernie Banks, Mr. Let's Play Two himself, played both ends of 318 doubleheaders in his career.

As teams had less financial need to play doubleheaders, they started to die out in the late 60s and into the 70s. The Mariners in 1983 were the first team ever to not schedule a doubleheader. It didn't take long for the other teams to catch up. An advantage of doubleheaders is that they do allow more off-days for the players. Typically doubleheaders drew larger crowds than two single games would draw. They were especially common on Sundays. I went to hundreds of these as a kid. Loved them. |
