These are chapman's numbers. www.mlb.com/player/aroldis-chapman-547973 In the last 7 games he had an 8.1 era. In the last 15 he had a 3.86 era. His season ERA is 2.46. What I looked for but have not found is the percent of saves that he did not win which is the only stat that matters for a closer. These are robertson's years as a Yankee (not all a closer). I can not tell from this what the percent of saves were blown (with the Yankees). Perhaps wiser individuals can. www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberda08.shtmlthese are sori's years with the Yankees. In the only year he had as a closer he saved 42 games and had a 2.26 era Chapman ERA with the Yankees: 2.45 David Robertson ERA with the Yankees: 2.75. How's he doing this year? 5.40 Rafael Soriano ERA with the Yankees: 2.94

Boston is 9 back. They are not the danger this year Tampa is. After this series the rays and yankees have TWO more games against each other all season. Boston has 12 left against the yankees. Very hard to make up ground when you don't play head to head. Its July 15th and the yankees haven't played 1 game in Fenway. The Blue Jays in 2015 were 8 back on July 28th. They won the division over the yankees by 6 games.

In the year Sori was a closer he was better than Chapman. He did not close the entire time at the Yankees. We are talking about when they were in their prime as chapman is not at the end of their career. Chapman's era this year is worse than Roberson's overall career with the Yankees not all of which was as a closer. The real point is percent of blown saves which the stats I have found do not show. Its the only stat that matters for a closer.

Here's Roberston's numbers. Do the math yourself. I'm tired of this:

In Robertson’s career, he has saved 137 of 172 opportunities or .7965% In Soriano’s career, he saved 207 of 245 opportunities or .8449% In Chapman’s career, he has saved 261 of 292 opportunities or .8938%
Okay, Russ?

I know what the predictable Noetsi will say. It only matters what they did for the Yankees. As if one season of being the closer proves anything for Soriano. Or Roberston's sporadic closing with the Yankees means anything.

Just for comparison...
652 games saved out of 732 opportunities or .8907

Moreover this is their entire career, people get worse as they get older and chapman has not reached that stage. I looked for their Yankee not all MLB career for a reason.

Just keep moving those goal posts and cherry pick away to your liking, noetsi.

You averred that they were better than Chapman. Now, you want to factor in Chapman’s future blown saves, which have not yet occurred?

My point was that the last two Yankee closer's I remember were more consistent than Chapman. I don't think I moved the line at all. In my first post I said I felt Sori and Robertson were better closer's than Chapman has been. I guess I did not say (or perhaps I did its far back) as a Yankee. That I should have. I pay attention to the Yankees not other teams except when they play the Yankees.
Over the last 30 games and especially last 7 Chapman has clearly struggled.
