I had to bail on this closer discussion, I get up early to do my workouts and I needed a little sleep. Plus, I was really annoyed by last night's loss and posting while you're angry probably isn't a good idea. Its all good CHI! Last nights loss seemed to be the worst of the year. But we'll bounce back! I agree, posts made in anger often don't look so good the next day. I saved myself only because I was too angry to post anything. In large part because of a jamoke like Travis d'Arnaud hitting three home runs. Of all the ways you could have devised a way to lose, d'Arnaud hitting three out would not have made my top 100 possibilities. Bounce back tonight for sure.

Today would be an outstanding day for the team to snap out of this little offensive funk and win a laugher...
Damn, Sanchez needs to get the Chad Green treatment. Go down to AAA and take for a week to remover how it feels to get a hit. Then come back up and catch fire. Be the Kracken... woukdn’t it be cool if a guy like him could just volunteer to go down to the minors for a week for the overall good of the team?...

I think most of these guys have an ego way too big to ever voluntarily go down to the minor leagues.

Do you honestly think that would be for the overall good of the team? I absolutely would not. Players slump, it happens. 6 days a week of Romine isn’t good news.

I recall when Mo when seemingly go through a short slump or two each season. The older he got, the more the doom and gloom era would begin to pick at his carcass. Like any team, or any athlete for that matter, no one is as good as they are when they’re at the top of their game, not as bad as they look when they’re out of sorts. Chapman has indeed been in a down cycle of late. That makes it convenient for folks who draw quick conclusions to condemn him. I have concerns that he is no longer finding that 104-105 MPH range, seldom even the 101 we saw tonight. He’s obviously worked hard to reinvent himself, and his results have been a pleasant surprise to me. If we choose to cry about not having the next Mariano, we’ll probably cry for a long time... Poor game management in my estimation. Base open with two outs, two strikes and you throw a pitch middle away, which is exactly where d’Arnaud hit home runs against three different Yankee pitchers: Green, Paxton (twice), and Chapman. Chapman has plenty velocity and stuff, but on a full count with the game on the line he threw his second best pitch in the worst spot against a very hot hitter. Lots of mental mistakes in that paragraph. Couldn’t agree more. In the moment it reminded me of Wohlers/Leytitz where a very good pitcher got beaten by a mediocre hitter in a long AB by giving in and throwing a pitch that wasn’t his best for a strike and giving the hitter something he could handle. Chapman got too cute there and it cost them the game.

It doesn’t matter, because...let’s face it... that would never happen. Besides, I’d have Erik Kratz start two of those games... (:
