I looked at the July thru Sept calendar the other day. Its tough until Sept and then very easy. If we play .600 ball the next 6 weeks we can skate from there. Playing .600 ball isn't exactly a snap. That equates to about 95 wins in a season.

That equates to about 95 wins in a season. Those kind of projections are so meaningless. Two weeks from now, I’d we just finished slumping through a 3-10 stretch or if we just went 11-2, the percentages get recalculated. Baseball has little to do with pace of play. Teams get hot and go cold. Each day is a new day. You just play ball every day and do all you can to win that day...

Streaks don't matter, its the total number of wins in this case two month that does. I think we can go .600 reasonably in practice we don't need to be remotely that good. We had 100 wins last year with a worse team.

Perhaps that statement is part of a natural brain condition that occurs when you spend all day working through numbers, but don’t utilize those numbers for anything, instead simply making them available to some supposedly higher source of intelligence at a higher ranking within the government. Reading numbers is one thing, but using them effectively to enact change or to lead is another. We used to see Girardi not only utilize the information. But sometimes overuse the informational that the noetsis’ of Yankeedom would print out for him. I used to hate that aspect of my last former employer as we had to fill out meaningless forms of drivel that our genius management team would (supposedly) read and utilize to find tiny droplets of information that they could convert into even tinier drips of profit that continually eroded our ability to service the customers who would eventually leave us for a company that either didn’t allow price creep or truly gave service with a value equal to price. Many kinds of intellect exist. They all have value. It’s only meaningful when all data is combined with good common sense...

Streaks are like random variation around a mean. In the end only the mean matters.
Common sense is not very common. Its particularly difficult to do in statistic. Beyond the pure rules of math, which I suspect few use, all you have are rules of thumb. Commonly these will ignore changes in the basic data generation systems or not apply in certain cases.

As an oldie myself I could stand corrected, but essentially it means to be tricked or having a practical joke played on you.

Like being trolled or someone posting something just to get a response. There’s no way someone makes the outlandish comments he does without desperately wanting some response of any kind, even if he knows it will be criticism. I won’t speak for others but I thought TMarino was a pathologically dishonest person who also wasn’t very smart and didn’t know anything about baseball. But otherwise, a peach of a guy.
