If you bet 11 runs for how long it would take before Aaron Boone realized his starter didn't have it today, you win. Tanaka departs with a 4.71 ERA. It could still go up another notch if Tarpley doesn’t shut the Sox down... I’m not happy watching this kind of baseball game after game after game after... This is the best team in baseball getting blown out tonight. Which would be shocking, if you had never seen baseball before. But every game stands on its own. Our starter had nothing tonight and you can't win when your pitcher can't get guys out.

Is every starter tipping pitches? Well, at the very least, it has been explained to us that we need not worry about Boston. Tampa is the real threat.

Higgy cranks one. Good for him. He probably won't stick with the Yanks for long but someone will take him as their backup C

But then the Red Sox can’t catch us despite how bad we have become because at some point this must stop being an anomaly and be considered the norm. Go study and get back with me...

Our starter had nothing tonight and you can't win when your pitcher can't get guys out. Sometimes, you get boat-raced. However, I’ve noticed recently that our starting pitchers have slowed down their pace from earlier in the year, nibbling when ahead, and just not aggressive enough. It’s like they are allowing the batter to dictate pace of play and to dig themselves comfortably in the box. One of the pitchers who does dictate pace and overtly attempts to disrupt timing is Nestor Cortes.

If you don't think the analysis I posted makes sense I can respect that. Whether you respect it or not doesn't matter to me. I don't think you understand how sports works. Having some knowledge of statistics and being unable to apply it to the topic at hand doesn't represent knowledge or wisdom. Sports is not magically different than any other probability. By the logic you use they would not play shifts because despite the high probability of a ball being hit somewhere it could possibly be hit somewhere else. So they would ignore what is most likely. In fact sports probabilities are calculated like any other probability (there may be some Baysians lurking somewhere). It is possible that Boston could overcome the gap I noted. Its extremely unlikely.

I've noticed this too, it's like some of these pitchers are trying to avoid contact and all they are doing is letting the hitter get back into the count.
