Mighty Casey has flown out A single there and it would be a close game. 7-2

Mama didn't know beans about statistics or probabilities, but she had the common sense, along with Yogi, to know it's not over until it's over...

yogi knew it was over, he retired. I am reminded of Thurber The race does not always go to the swift of foot nor the battle to the brave of heart - but that is the way to bet.

Fact - if historical numbers and probability determined baseball results, the Yankees don't win the 1978, 1996 or 2000 World Series, and there's no talk about a Yankees dynasty or the Core Four. And yet somehow, it happened.

I surely have enjoyed James Thurber, and felt sadness at his passing....after the war, when people still bought magazines, and enjoyed reading, his stories were invariably witty and entertaining....and he made an artform of shaggy dog stories...…….

So Tanaka doesn't have it. It happens. Are we just giving up this game and letting it get out of reach, or might we put Hale in and still try to make a game of it?

And yet somehow, it happened. If you don't think the analysis I posted makes sense I can respect that. Probabilities are not always right, there are extreme outliers. They are right most of the time. That works for me. It could be that we will experience an outlier this year, I think its more reasonable to go with what is most likely not what could theoretically happen.
Its why I run statistics for a living. If you don't think probabilities matter its a rough profession.

What bothers me is this is the 5th straight start we were awful.

I don't think you understand how sports works. Having some knowledge of statistics and being unable to apply it to the topic at hand doesn't represent knowledge or wisdom.

You can't have your starter shit the bed like this, and leave him in anyway, and expect to win. Boone is playing for tomorrow. Expect a couple of innings of Hale and Tarpley and then they both get sent back down.

If you bet 11 runs for how long it would take before Aaron Boone realized his starter didn't have it today, you win.

If you bet 11 runs for how long it would take before Aaron Boone realized his starter didn't have it today, you win. Tanaka departs with a 4.71 ERA. It could still go up another notch if Tarpley doesn’t shut the Sox down... I’m not happy watching this kind of baseball game after game after game after...
