I did my own version of Sabermetrics before we ever heard the term. There was a difference in that I added BA + OBP + SLG, which I still feel is more accurate than just OBP + SLG, because hits create more value than walks...I was an innovator... (: I think BA has elements in it such as ability to drive in runs not caught by OBP. I think OBP plus SLG plus some normalized runs scored (where you control for your RBI's relative to your team) makes more sense. Then you’d have to have a very complex equation that includes elements such as number of RBI opportunities, batting order position, etc.. It would be a mess to compute with no guarantee that it would be any more accurate... |

Probably modeling it as direct and indirect effects would be even better. |
