Thought I was going to watch the game on ESPN, but I apparently stumbled onto a Ken Griffey, Jr. biopic. I'm glad I'm watching YES. You should be glad. I'm sure YES is actually showing the game. ESPN showing mostly the broadcast booth. They have a strange fascination in giving their broadcast crew more facetime than the game.

happ escapes. Bad calls are like bad bounces. They happen. You have to work around them and good pitchers will. Bad calls are not like bad bounces. You can adjust to a bad bounce and still make the play or knock it down. Sometimes you can other times you can't. Happ could have gotten a .200 batter out.

They just spent 5 minutes talking about how Jr. dropped his bat after he hit a home run. I'm going to bed. You guys bring 'em home!

Those are two different occurrences. The point is that a bad call is out of one’s control. The pitch was executed, the inning was over. Do you really believe getting four outs in an inning is no different than getting three? Do you know the difference between a .200 hitter and a .250 hitter over a week of games?

Happ through the fifth inning:
5 innings 2 hits 3 runs 3 walks 7 strikeouts
Should be:
5 innings 2 hits 0 runs 2 walks 8 strikeouts

I really think that getting a bad call is exactly like a ball being deflected accidentally by another player or bouncing crazy. You have control over neither and just have to make up for it. I have seen many cases where there was a sure out and then there was not.
