I can stay away from sugar more effectively than salty snacks, but I do have a weakness for gummy bears and sour treats. My biggest problem is that I love to cook and find it difficult to create smaller amounts. What are your favorite things to cook? So many things. Of course, most anything from south Louisiana, be it Cajun, creole, or southern dishes; barbecue; Italian; Mexican; Mediterranean; and in college I was really into Chinese cuisine - it’s just difficult to get the right texture without the correct wok burner. Lately, I’ve been reading about curries and will begin experimenting soon.

I can make them simply or grind my own combination of beef and other meat, along with different spices, seasonings, with and without marinades...just never overwork the damn patties!

I’m not much of a cook, but when I see a mad flipper at the grill I know the burgers are going to be dry as 100-year-old wood...

I used to do almost all the cooking, especially family holidays, parties and get togethers. Sarah usually took care of the desserts and baking.

The residual heat will continue to cook the meat until it’s perfectly done. For burgers on the grill, use a flat metal surface/griddle on top, so the juices aren’t just lost in the coals and lower the temperature of the heat source. The smoke will still give the burgers plenty of flavor.

I do things like steak by time but I am a big believer in the meat thermometer. Also totally agree that people overlook things because they forget that they keep cooking when you take them off the grill.
This time of year I make some pretty great buffalo wings on the grill and have been making roast hot peppers on the grill almost every weekend.

Holy cow! I thought this board was Yankee Nation. Turns out it's Carrie Nation. Who knew? Guess we not only follow the American League, but the Temperance League as well. Explains why we don't have the occasional drunken rant on the board. Of course, that leaves us without an explanation for some of the posts on here. I’m not dry like you guys but have done a month at a time several times along with other changes to diet. It is amazing how much weird social pressure people try to put on someone who simply chooses not to drink. Given that it is clearly and obviously not healthy for you it is weird how much society wants to encourage it.

It is amazing how much weird social pressure people try to put on someone who simply chooses not to drink. Given that it is clearly and obviously not healthy for you it is weird how much society wants to encourage it. I’m recalling a particular golf match that had been long anticipated. It was an hour and a half away or more from our regular golfing haunts. It was a terrible, rainy day, and the course was closed. When then clubhouse guy found out we were dumb enough to drive as far as we had in the (cold) rain, he allowed us to play anyway. When we finished, the place was closing down, but of course with two car loads of guys, most that liked to drink there was an obligatory stop at a beer joint in the way home. Me and a guy named Tommy were both non-drinkers at the time, but we spotted O’Douls Amber (non-alcohol) behind the bar and we both liked that and ordered one. The other six guys about crapped with glee when they saw not one of us, but both of us sucking on a brown bottle... To this day, that is the only non-alcohol beer I have ever liked. I’ve tried the O’Doul’s in the green bottle, but don’t care for it. Quite a day. We started out with four carloads of guys. Two carloads were smart enough to go home without playing, and our two carloads were dumb enough to stay. I was at least smart enough to team up in a covered cart with a guy that brought a little portable propane heater...We weren’t near as cold as the other guys... (:

Recalling now, in case Pipps ever strayed out there. Hawk Valley was the name of the course. It’s in Denver, PA. Only the back nine remains open now, which is sort of sad, because the course was quite a tester of just about every aspect of your game. Even more in the rain... (:

Yep. The league the team the player the agent and the union all seem aligned to bury this story. Which can’t be good news.
