Hmmm. Third time I've posted this (and for some reason it's not posting), but... Sierchio: What was your grade on the DH missive? Who in the heck told you the DH was implemented in 1939??? EDIT...It worked this time!!!My favorite line was "Who wants to see a 40 year old swinging at air?"

EDIT...It worked this time!!!My favorite line was "Who wants to see a 40 year old swinging at air?" Vs. the pitchers, who ALWAYS got a hit, right? Hey, if we're going to horsewhip the lad for sharing his school papers with us, we might as well do a good job of it. Let's see what else we can find...This could get fun...

My favorite part of the paper was the intro. So dramatic. "Fifty-nine years ago, cancer struck. This kind of cancer was like no other. This cancer is called the Designated Hitter."

Simon Cowell would have said that the report was self-indulgent and therefore not worthy of consideration. C'mon, an American kid thinking about and writing about baseball for his school work? What teacher doesn't just throw that in the trash? Why, he might just as well write an essay on the breast development of his female classmates...or speculate on the buttocks to breasts ratios of the various characters. That was most of what I was thinking about in high school...Half the time I couldn't stand up without holding a book in front of my waist area...

Got some bad news... Ellsbury wants to remain a Yankee... even as a bench player...
per mlbtraderumors
Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is slated to serve as a reserve yet again next season, but he’d like to remain with the club, per Heyman. Ellsbury’s full no-trade clause and the nearly $70MM left on his contract (including a $5MM buyout in 2021) figure to make dealing the 34-year-old a rather tall order for the Yanks.

He threatens to return to Japan if he is not traded to the Yanks. Wanting his new team to remain competitive, he demands that Seattle accept Ellsbury even up.

I posted this on our parents (lol) website. Thought I'd post it here too for those of us who don't go over to the dark side anymore. These are CC Sabathia and Alex Cobbs baseball reference predictions for next season. I'm posting them not because I think baseball america (or any other prediction system) does a good job at predictions but because of how hilariously similar they are. They have CC and Cobb both pitching the same number of innings with the same ERA... both acquiring one save and giving up the same amount of hits... oh and the same amount of earned runs as well.. it's crazy how similar those two stat lines are. That said, I once again liked to stat, this is no way and endorsement for either pitcher... I am not using this to argue anything, either way... I am just posting this because I find it hilarious at how similar they are...

Jose Pirela had a nice season for the Padres. If you look at his twitter page you can see some GIF's of some slicks plays he made on defense in LF... and some clutch hits. He played about half a season.. so if you double his HR and RBI ( I know, who knows if he would have played at that pace for a whole season, but lets pretend) he would've had about 20 hr and 80 RBI.. and he had a nice OPS+ like 120ish or so.. twitter.com/JosePirela12

Today is a day of infamy in Yankees history. December 27, 1984 the Yankees signed a pitcher who had pitched to a solid record of 14-8; 3.24 only to see him completely bomb as a Yankee. That's right, Ed Whitson became a Yankee that day. It was said that by the time he left NY, he was so frightened to pitch there that he could only pitch on the road. A real psychological mess. Yet, his splits in 1985 showed:
Home (NY) 4-2; 4.08 Road 6-6; 5.48
Then in 1986:
Home (NY, SD) 3-5; 5.43 Road 3-4; 7.08 It would appear as though Whitson's road failures lead to the excess booing at home, which then lead to his psychological issues. Whatever was wrong with the man, he posted a career ERAs with his various teams as follow:
San Diego 3.69; San Francisco 3.56; Pittsburgh 3.73; Cleveland 3.26; New York 5.38

I'm sure Billy wasn't impressed with Eddie's mental toughness.

www.si.com/longform/2015/1985/billy-martin/index.html. That link may be the best link to read about the fight. A reporter and eye-witness seems to have been quite impartial in his description, which makes it sound as though Whitson was the problem that night...though Martin had been aggravating Whitson by saying he didn't think he had the stomach to pitch in NY. Billy the peacemaker got his ass...or at least his nuts and arm...kicked...
