More on Lasorda: I accidentally noted today that when Red Schoendiest passed away Lasorda became the oldest living Hall of Famer... Nice factoid, Inger. Lasorda will turn 92 this year. In second place and just one year younger is Whitey Ford. Then three years later come Whitey Herzog and Willie Mays, followed three more years later by Hank Aaron. Other than Lasorda, I vividly remember all of those guys as active players, even Herzog who I remember playing for the Washington Senators. In 1948, Tom Lasorda, pitching for the Schenectady Blue Jays, struck out 25 batters in 15 innings, which as far as I can tell is still a record number for professional baseball.

Hard to believe Whitey is still plugging away with all the partying he did in the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Yet another fine Lasorda factoid. Just imagine how much we’d talk about him if he had any ties to organization...

I really hate cold weather and this is beyond anything I've ever experienced in Chicago.

I really hate cold weather and this is beyond anything I've ever experienced in Chicago. I’ve been thinking of you and yours Chi. I remember one morning in MD when I was a teenager and the thermometer outside my bedroom window read (-24). Besides that one morning I can’t recall any days I’ve spent as low as even (-10). Protection from that kind of weather is paramount, as I’m sure your weatherman has told you repeatedly. Watch the kids. Don’t let them be the neighborhood show-offs pretending not to be cold and leaving exposed skin. Stay warm, and if I was a little nicer guy I wouldn’t tell you it’s going to be in the 50’s here today...

School is closed today & tomorrow, so the kids won't be going anywhere. My office is closed today and so is the gym I workout at. There's no mail or garbage service, the first time I could remember those two shutting down. The place is like a ghost town. My feel bad for my dog, no outdoor playtime for her. She just doesn't understand why she isn't going for a walk today.

You know, the above zero kind of 30s that are about 60 degrees warmer than the kind you’re re enjoying now... Global warming. Just think how cold you’d be without it... (: In reality, the weather is so different from the climate. Warmer weather heats the oceans and disturbs the wind currents creating more extremes of weather of all types on a local and temporary basis...

Just hold on a few days CHI!
In Chicago, "the mercury will go from record lows in the 20s below zero during the middle of this week to about 40 above zero by the end of the weekend, a swing of about 60 degrees,” according to AccuWeather meteorologist Bill Deger.
