“…As the sporting industry exploded in the 1920s, athletic trainers and their charges immediately saw the possibilities of using his research. Even the Big Bambino himself, Babe Ruth, injected himself with extract from a sheep’s testicles, hoping for increased power at the plate (and in the bedroom). He attempted this only once, and it made him incredibly ill; the Yankees covered the story by telling the press that the Babe just had one of his famous bellyaches. Even though the Yankees tend to celebrate all things Babe Ruth, they have never, to my knowledge, had “Sheep Testicles Day” at the stadium.” www.baltimoreorless.com/2011/01/babe-ruth-injected-sheeps-testicles/

There must be some kind of gene in a goodly percentage of humanity that will make them cheat at athletics. It's a shame, really. They work so hard to become all that they can be and yet, they need more. I guess it's not just athletes that cheat though...there are so many ways that people will cheat financially, some very creative and some so obvious that when they get caught it leaves you scratching your head, wondering how they ever thought they'd get away with it in the first place...
I think it was Pud Galvin who was the first pitcher to use a PED, a crushed testicle "cocktail" of dog and guinea pig. He pitched a good game the day of or the day after the injection. That's all it took to make more believers. And in those days, there was no public outcry. Since Pud was the first to try it, people admired his courage and resourcefulness. So, there was the first 300 game winner in MLB...on PEDs...
I wrote this, now I'm stopping to read it. Guinea Pig? REALLY? Why not go for something big and scary, like a cougar, or at least a lynx...Taking that concoction, I'd be afraid I'd go to pee and raise my leg, or start to eat and wind up stuffing my cheeks with my food to swallow it later...or to squeal like a pig...

I dunno. People cheat at many things that don't make them any stronger. Some will make them richer. Some will ruin their marriage. Cheating at cards for instance...that one's very popular, yet you only get richer. I've known many folks that can't be trusted to be the banker in Monopoly. Doesn't make you any stronger, no richer, no smarter...certainly doesn't gain you any respect among your friends or relatives...

LOL... I meant as far as taking steroids... maybe the players at the time didn't see it as a way of cheating... just improving themselves, just as working out normally would. Since it wasn't against MLB rules at the time..

Yep, that's exactly how it was, and still is to some degree. Whitey would watch for Yogi to catch the ball and real-quick-like he'd put it on the dirt and give it a quick twist and toss it back. Whitey knew he had a little scuff-mark now that he could use to make the ball dance. Wink, wink. Sometimes the batter saw it, but the ump didn't. No one said anything, it was Whitey Ford out there on the mound. That was how he pitched...So the same if someone wanted to drink goat piss or whatever kind of imaginary helpers they could find...
A lot of it's mental anyway. I remember a guy telling me once that he played better golf if he took six Advil before he played. Why the hell not? He was 21 at the time. Not likely to destroy his kidneys for at least 20 years...LOL...You can't tell the aspirin, which would be followed by beer during the round were doing anything for him except giving him some false confidence...

Wtf is this nonsense? www.nj.com/mercer/index.ssf/2018/01/trenton_thunder_announces_on_fridays_were_the_pork.html#incart_river_mobileshort_homeTrenton Thunder renaming themselves the Trenton Pork Roll this summer Popcorn, peanuts - and pork roll. To commemorate their 25th season in Trenton this summer, the Trenton Thunder - a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees - will become the Trenton Pork Roll. And the players will wear special, pork roll uniforms. On Friday nights anyway. "Pork Roll is a New Jersey staple that can be served on everything from breakfast sandwiches to burgers and we're thrilled to celebrate it on a daily basis at ARM & HAMMER Park," Thunder General Manager Jeff Hurley in an announcement. "Re-branding ourselves as the Thunder Pork Roll on Friday nights is the perfect way to celebrate a Garden State favorite!" he said.

We can be thankful that the team did not decide to embrace the Arm and Hammer "baking soda in the cat litter" tradition instead.
On Friday night's the team will all dress as kitty cats, with funny little ear hats and cute little tails on their uniforms. Fans will be invited to attend several hours early when the ball park will be filled with cat litter and you can turn your cat loose to poop in our park. Afterward the grounds crew will vacuum all the sh*t up and squeegee the field* so we can have batting practice on "Bring Your Pussy To The Ballpark Night". All pussy will get free admission...
*field will be "Arm and Hammer Fresh"!!!

Unfortunately doesn’t seem like it. This is something a random shitty franchise would do. Let the Mets minor league affiliates do this

It'd be great if we can find a Jim Leyritz type player. I don't think one exists now-a-days though. Leyritz could play 3rd, 1st, C, and OF. (of course DH as well...) His defensive might've not been great.. but honestly, I was too young to really remember. His offense was around replacement level , but I remember him having good power... although, my memory is from a kid and could very well be clouded. But my point is, it'd be nice to have a bench piece that can backup catcher/3rd/1st... and still be replacement level with the bat (unlike Romine...) It'd be nice if Gary only caught <100 games and spent rest of the time at DH.. to keep his body fresh.
