Random thought: If OBP is really more important than any other offensive stat, why isn’t Eddie Gaedel (1.000 OBP) celebrated as the all time greatest hitter?… Ha ha, baseball owners were far more entertaining in the past than they are now. Midgets at the plate, elephants on the field, owners from the past would try anything to get fans in the stands. Nickel Beer Night -- Disco Demolition Night -- Bat Day. Back in the mid-60s when the Yankees were terrible, Bat Day made an enormous difference in attendance. You would go from maybe 10-15,000 up to 60,000. And if there were any serious problems with all of those young juvenile delinquents being given bats, I sure don't recall it.

Hi Kaseeb! Please post the picture I sent. Three straight bowling championship patches, two ABC pins for my 600 series, and just for the fun of it a $1 coin that I saved when they came out (obverse) the front was George Washington.

I didn't realize inger was a combination of Willie Mays and Dick Weber. Very impressive! Are bowlers considered athletes?

I didn't realize inger was a combination of Willie Mays and Dick Weber. Very impressive! Are bowlers considered athletes? lol, what was your highest score ever inger ? Only 255. My best season average was 171. Odd, but I got a free tip when I was nearing the end of my bowling years that helped me deliver a more powerful “hook”, but my employer was giving me some excrement about having a bowling night, so I wound up quitting. One pretty cool memory I have is a night when I had no “command”. The ball was not behaving for me. I was hitting dead center on some shots and even MISSED THE HEAD PIN twice on a string of six of the ugliest strikes I’ve ever seen my life. I was getting pins to fly off the back wall, sliding, spinning twisting. In the end they were all laying down. I must have had some extra revolutions on the ball that night. For the seventh strike attempt I gathered all my fundamentals and delivered a perfect, powerful pocket hit… and left the ten pin standing…

Don’t forget my years as Greg Norman on the course or my short foray into being the great white hope in a neighborhood that had only white kids. I never played hockey nor rugby but when I tried to play basketball I was able to incorporate those two sports into the game. For some reason I wasn’t usually welcome on the courts…something about eye-gouging, fighting my own man for rebounds, etc..

Now, to answer your question about bowlers being athletes… I never really had much of an idea how to answer this until about 7 years ago when my step daughter and her husband suggested a family evening of bowling. No longer owning my own ball, I went to alley, rented shoes and walked confidently to the ball rack to select a 16-pound ball like the one I used to have. There was no way I could still roll that ball after having been away from the sport for 15+ years. I wound up trying a 14- pound ball, and even that was really too much. I did accidentally bowl a 207 that night, but the other two games were dreadful representations of my former self… something like a 120 and a 94. I e sort of erased them from my memory. I tried duckpins one day when I had to go to Baltimore to for a medical visit for my son. I want too bad at them for a beginner, but I never tried them again…

Thanks for posting this Kaybli. This stuff was in one of three boxes that have sat forlornly without being unpacked since we moved in. I knew where I wanted to put the stuff, but just never got around to it. Having not seen any of the things in there, unpacking them became a guilty pleasure. The patches. Many of my expired driving licenses with my photo at different life stages. Old coins, I think a couple of my baby teeth. The side Buck knife I used to carry with me everywhere, and used a LOT when I was greenhousing. Just odds and ends. On impulse I decided to photo and send the bowling crapola…

I think I got a patch for that one, but it’s disappeared. My power game was just missing something, and I never took a lesson. I rolled a litany of 240-somethings, bit only got over that hump to the 250’s once… I was so close. I suppose a lesson of two might have put me in some elite company for local league bowlers. Oh well. We had fun!…

I get it that some people dislike cats, even have allergies of cats. But to run screaming. Weird…
