Just before dusk tonight I went outside to encourage the dogs to go out before it got dark. I was fortunate enough to see a meteor fly over our property, quite close to the house. It was only the second one I’ve ever seen in daylight. It lasted for maybe 4 seconds, and had a nice tail on it for the semi-daylight.
The first one was maybe 14 years ago. It was huge and so low I could hear it sizzling and quite loudly. It was flying parallel to my driving route for about 3 miles before I turned. I still wish I had kept going straight that day as far as possible…

Ruthie and I went over to the sand dunes, which is a nationally declared dark skies site to watch meteors for a while. It’s dark at our house, but Dag gone! It is REALLY dark in the park. What little bit of light the town of Alamosa produces is completely obscured over there. Oddly, it’s 6 degrees here and just a 25 mile drive away it was 21 degrees!
We also saw a fox on the way home. Not sure if it was Volpe or not… 🤓
The peak for viewing should be around 12-1 tonight. I’ll probably step out to see what’s going on. If it’s really wild maybe I’ll light the fire pit and watch for awhile. It’s not like I’d be sleeping anyway. Of course Ruth is already asleep…

I still have that Quora app, though I don’t pay much attention to it. I did see a great question on there today though :
What is the name of the worlds tallest Mount Everest? …
Hmm. I’m going to go with Mt. Everest for the win…🤓

Pags sends everyone home with a smile. Hard to believe Pags is 63 years old and last played 28 years ago. I always liked him -- good glove, Yankee Stadium swing -- but his numbers are less than I would have thought. He really just had the two good years for the Yanks in 86 and 87, when he hit 32 and 28 HRs. But his career OPS+ was only 93. He came up to the Yanks in 1984, the year after Nettles left, and shared third base duties with Toby Harrah and Roy Smalley Jr., to exhume two names from the past. Remember he was the Twins regular third baseman when they won it all in 1991, although he hit only 6 HRs with 36 RBIs.

Under the circumstances of Nettles departure Pags filled the void admirably for a couple of seasons. He performed somewhat like a poor man’s Nettles. By then Nettles performing a bit more like a pauper’s Nettles in SD, so it felt right. Had Nettles been a potential legacy Yankee it would have been harder, a bit like when Elston Howard wanted to continue his career in Boston rather than to accept the end of his career…

I’m going to try to go to sleep. The Hummer has an open recall for a wire that connects the HVAC in the car that may cause a fire. The closest GM dealer is in Pueblo, which means I have to come down of the mountain into Pueblo, a 2.5 hour trip. There is snow expected down there, on the mountain pass coming home, and in the valley here where I live.
We were supposed to both go and be picked up by friends for an afternoon of conversation, but they both wound up with a change of plans, so… I’ll have to sit and wait 2-3 hours while the snow piles up. Maybe longer. Oh well. Leaving Ruth at home in case I get snowed in at Pueblo, so she’ll be safe and can care for the dogs. With the Hummer, the only way I’m getting snowed out is if there is a road closure. I’m coming home come Hell or deep snow. Unless the gates go down.
Predictions in Pueblo and here are around 2-3” inches, but on the passes? You never know. Could be a lot of fun! 🤓…

Baseball Reference used to be my go-too site for the RIPs, but they’ve become very inconsistent with posting them in a timely manner. I’ll still do my best to ferret them out. Help by others is always respectfully appreciated…
