Thanks pipps! Appreciate your input. I will definitely try Brooks shoes. And I’ll look into Feetures socks as well. Walking has been a life changer for me. I always walk listening to music too. Definitely agree it's a life-changer Kaybli. I practically go crazy if I can't get my walks in. We all have our own comfort zones; for me I leave the electronics at home, in part because I'm a birder and I like to hear who's out there, but it seems most people I see have the earbuds in. People do recognize the regular hikers. I know all the guys on the county road crews and highway department scuttlebutt. I've had people come up to me in the grocery store and say "you're that guy who's always walking." Funny stuff. lol at the guy whose always walking. As long as your secret identity of 00 agent isn’t revealed. 😆 Do any of you guys lift weights? I try to at least twice a week.

Not that Chi needs any seconding, but I would also vouch for Brooks. I do a lot of walking -- my running days sadly ended maybe eight years ago -- and I kept getting blisters until I switched to Brooks, which I have been using for several years now with no issues. Perhaps like you I would occasionally try to squeeze a few extra miles out of them, but it’s always counterproductive. For me in-person fittings at a trusted store always works best, but we all have our own ways. Socks too -- I've been using Feetures and for me they work very well. They're designed for serious wear and I put them to the test. Good luck and glad you're getting out there. Brisk walking is a wonderful stress reduction program. Thanks pipps! Appreciate your input. I will definitely try Brooks shoes. And I’ll look into Feetures socks as well. Walking has been a life changer for me. I always walk listening to music too. Let's us know how it turns out and what shoe you try.

My wife has trouble with her feet and struggles to find comfortable walking shoes. She recently tried Hokas and loves them. My running friend runs all her races in Hokas and she loves them. I tried them a couple years ago at my running store, and they just didn't feel right. That's the problem, we're all different and what works for me might not work for you. And there's so many brands of shoes to choose from. When I was a younger man I used to run marathons and swore by Brooks. They were an elite shoe when I ran HS Track many many years ago, Glad to see the company is still making quality products.

I’m going to wait until next Tuesday to try and walk again depending on how my sore foot heals so i will order the shoes over the weekend. Thanks again.

I'm a gym rat, so I do some free weights and use the machines three days a week. Nobody would ever mistake me for a body builder, but I just want to exercise everything, even at modest levels, because as you get older you realize how quickly the unused parts will atrophy. As I'm sure you know, the more active you are, the more active you want to stay.

Where did you run marathons 55? I wasn't even aware of Brooks running shoes when I was in high school in the 1960s, although we did use their cleats for baseball. For basketball it was Converse Chuck Taylors and I remember US Pro-Keds for everyday use. Brooks began in Philly making ballet slippers. Not far from where Slinkies were being produced. But they've been Seattle-based for awhile now.

When I ran shorter events half mile, mile I used a pair of Asics. Used Brooks for longer events. Last marathon/10K was probably in the late 90's.

I’m still wearing DC’s for the little bit of extra width, but the last pair I got didn’t seem quite as wide as the previous ones. With the neuroma in my feet it’s just weird. Sometimes I go to take my shoes off only to find that I don’t have any on, and the opposite at times as well. The combination of pain and numbness has just become something that’s normal for me at this point. I’ve started wearing my socks to bed to avoid having unusual stimulation from the covers waking me in the middle of the night.
I’m definitely one that will get every inch of walking out of a pair of shoes that I can, much like my thirty year old tee shirts and jeans.
I’m just not the “type” to exercise any more. Used to lift weights, play golf, softball / baseball, bowl…

It’s in the high fifties here. I’m an idiot though I went from no activity from the cold to walking 5 miles in one day and hurt my foot. I hope it’s not a stress fracture. Walking around with a slight limp now. Just a reminder to ramp up slowly and take it easy I guess. 🤦🏾♂️ I hope it's nothing serious with your foot. One suggestion I would make is to always check your shoes and make sure they're not worn out. Nothing will cause sore feet quicker than running/walking in worn out sneakers. Absolutely agree. Same with tennis and any sport. Bad support or the wrong support can cause shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and flattening of the arches, which can feel like a stress fracture.

It will lengthen your life, lower your blood sugar, help your mental health, etc, etc, etc, so many benefits.

I have 30 year old suits, ties, t-shirts and jeans in my closet. I should get rid of some of my old clothes, etc…But I have all of those things, too… My wife "secretly" disposes of some of it in small doses. She thinks I don't notice...but I do. I wore a suit & tie 5 days a week for 35+ years. My "wardrobe" today consists of t-shirts & shorts. I keep the jeans & suits "just in case", but the days of a 30-32W are long gone.
