Loved Dino's show. Sliding down the firepole while Kenny Lane would tickle the ivories. The Golddiggers so yummy. And he gave us Foster Brooks on his roasts. All that plus being Matt Helm. The Little Old Winemaker and sponsor of the Tucson Open. Pretty good for a guy from Steubenville Ohio. Many believe Martin & Perry Como were quintessential Italian-American NYers. Both from the same general area. Astute observation Bob. Canonsburg PA (hometown of Como and Bobby Vinton) and Steubenville OH are less than 40 rust belt miles from each other. There's a big mural of Dean Martin on the Steubenville Kroger's that's become a bit of a tourist attraction.

An "interesting" area of the country...Canonsburg & Steubenville separated by the "middle finger" of West Virginia.

I remember that line differently from the Jim Reeves album. Love the old school Jim Reeves reference Rizz. I know this should more properly be in the music thread, but I am constitutionally incapable of resisting when the subject is music. Jim Reeves, who died in a plane crash 60 years ago, was in my father's Mount Rushmore of C&W singers when I was a kid -- Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold -- so I heard "Welcome To My World" and "He'll Have To Go" and "Four Walls" and "Adios Amigo" far more than I would have liked. My father went well out of his way on a driving trip to Austin to visit Reeves' grave in Carthage, Texas. (I come honestly by the compulsion to have to personally see things that are important to me.) As popular as Reeves was in the US, he was far more popular in the UK, Germany, South Africa and -- hard to believe -- India. Lots of Indians of a certain age love old C&W music. Drifting a bit here, but I have been astonished by how many black Africans love that same music. One of my friends of longest-standing worked for the Associated Press in the late 70s-early 80s covering what was then the Rhodesian War. Eventually he married a black Shona Zimbabwean woman named Sarah. I finally got to meet her when they returned to live in PA in the 80s. My parents had us all over for lunch one day when my wife and I were visiting back home. It was rather jaw-dropping to see her bonding with my father over his collection of Eddy Arnold records! "Cattle Call"! She grew up with that. Not a scene I would ever have expected to see. BTW Jim Reeves was piloting his own single-engine plane when it crashed in a thunderstorm. It's not a great track record for celebrities piloting their own small aircraft. I have to credit my favorite uncle John Lewis for introducing me to Jim Reeves. Uncle John was the father I always wanted, but I only saw him about once or twice a year, as he lived in Texas with my Aunt Helen, my mother's sister. When I was about 12 or 13, I spent a week with Uncle John at his fishing camp at Toledo Bend Lake, on the Texas side of the Sabine River. On the way, he had a cassette tape of the best of Jim Reeves. That deep, smooth, and relaxing voice made an impression on me. Reeves' calming vibe perfectly described my Uncle John, 180 degrees of my father. Speaking of Eddie Arnold, when I was 11 years old, I took my first plane flight from Houston to Bismarck, North Dakota, with my sister to visit my brother, who was stationed in Minot (birthplace of former LSU basketball coach Dale Brown). He drove us back to Louisiana in his VW van with the pop-up sleeping cabin. That was really my first and only true vacation, as we camped in the Black Hills of SD, visited Mount Rushmore, took a cave exploration, and I learned how to read a map. All the way, he had Eddie Arnold playing.

Jerry Vale, Bobby Darin, and Tony Bennett were from NYC.

Man, if Sabathia had been in that kind of shape during his playing days, he might just be retiring.
