He grew up as a Yankees fan and that was the story before his dad backed out on DO after they drafted him. Yep. Don't know if you saw early in the game they had a great picture of him as a kid at Yankee Stadium holding a sign about being a Yankee fan forever. Of course that and $300 million might get him to sign. I remember that from when they drafted him. And then he decided to back out on the deal he had with the Yanks and he went to UCLA. He will go where he gets paid the most. Just like with last year, teams who are worse than the Yankees have more reason to overpay. |

Joe Smith has a career ERA+ of 136 after 13 seasons. A very solid pitcher for a long time. And as soon as I write that Gleyber takes him deep.

It depends. Probably 7-8 years at $250-275m. I’d have to think about how much more value he brings as compared to merely above average options. I don't think you can win a WS without an elite pitcher. And they have serious costs and/or risks. Tanaka is one of the best post season pitchers in baseball history. |
