T Clipp will pitch forever. Only 34 years old and he’s already got 741 appearances under his belt. The right handed Orosco? Just checked. At 34 Orosco “only” had 598. TClipp is way ahead of his pace. Now to see if he can keep going til he’s 46...

Ty Clip, D-Rob, Mark Melancon, Betances.. the Yanks produced their fair share of elite RP this decade, who flourished, even if it was after they left the org.

I'd sign Betances on a one year deal... He wants 10 mil? I'll give ya 7.5.. with escalators based on IP, where he can end up with 12.5...

Maldonado won't be coming to the Yankees.

Maldonado won't be coming to the Yankees. For now, Higashioka is the man. I like him, but I’m not sure why. There are so many red flags here. He’ll be 30 next year, way beyond true “prospect” age. He didn’t draw a single walk last season in NY in 76 AB Though he’s flashed power, he hasn’t shown any consistent hit tool in MLB I fully expect the Yanks to find another catcher to at least compete with Higgy. I didn’t care all that much for Maldonado, so the lack of his signing isn’t disturbing me much at all...I don’t figure Cole will self-destruct without him...

Still free agents:
Quite a few catchers, to be honest. I took note of Matt Wieters. Switch hitter. The past two seasons he’s hit 19 HR in 456 AB. Doesn’t draw many walks any more.
Jason Castro bats lefty. He hit 13 HR vs RHP last year in 230-some at bats, and compiled a 121 OPS+ vs. RHP. He’s pretty bad vs. LHP.
I liked them for a back up role more than anyone else still floating around. Neither is ancient, nor will they feel restricted in a back up.

According to nj.com:
“The Yankees filled a need on Friday adding a veteran catcher. Back in the organization for the fourth time since 2017 is journeyman Erik Kratz, who is returning on a minor-league contract.”

I don't think he's good enough to be a major league player for a full season, even as a backup. I guess we'll see. Given the depth of the lineup, I'd be fine with them adding someone who can't hit but who is above average at defense and working with the pitchers.

I was disappointed the Yanks went cheap with the backup catcher spot and settled for Higgy. Maldonado or Castro would have made more sense, especially when you consider how often Sanchez ends up on the DL.
