According to nj.com: “The Yankees filled a need on Friday adding a veteran catcher. Back in the organization for the fourth time since 2017 is journeyman Erik Kratz, who is returning on a minor-league contract.” They love this guy. I'd rather get one of the two guys inger mentioned. I love having him around for spring training, which is more what this is. If we keep him this year he may get into a few MLB games as a lesser option. Gives 100%, and will probably still be catching when he’s 60. My knees hurt just thinking about it...

By signing Kratz the Yankees have made a crafty move to improve their pitching in blow out games. In Kratz’ 5 career games (5 innings) he’s compiled a 138+ career ERA, 3.60 conventional. All of his appearances on the mound have occurred since 2016. Tongue in cheek here, of course, but it’s better than nothing.
Kratz, 39, has always been good at limiting the running game, owning a 32% CS rate vs. the league percentage of 28% in his MLB time. Since this is his 4th time in the Yankee organization, it would appear that the Yanks may be wooing him for a post-playing career position to work with the Yankee minor leaguers in the future...

Dallas Keuchel is heading to the White Sox: The White Sox are at least making an effort this off-season. Signing Grandal, extending Abreu, trading for Mazara, offering Wheeler more than any other team, now getting Keuchel. Don't know how it will turn out, but they're getting into the mix.

So far the biggest question mark is the continued maturation of the pitching staff. Last year, Giolitto was the only one that didn’t take a step backward...

They also signed Gio Gonzalez. The AL Central isn't a powerhouse division, so it wouldn't take much to become contenders.

Yikes, that's a lot of money for a pitcher that hasn't been durable.

We want Boston stuck with that deal.

The Red Sox better not pull another 2012 type deal when they dumped all those bad contracts on the Dodgers.

Still hate to see him come to a division foe even though we did light him up when we saw him last year. This is an interesting move. The last two seasons have been by far Ryu's best, by almost every measure --ERA+, WHIP, H9,HR9, K9, K/BB -- only deGrom has a better ERA+ in that period. On the other hand, he has had significant injury issues in three of the past five seasons and will turn 33 before next season starts. I can't tell if he's a guy who peaked at a good time or a guy who is just putting it all together on the late side. I had him in mind as a consolation target if we didn't get Cole. Four years seems like a lot for his age and injury history, but like you guys I hate seeing him go to a division rival that appears to be on he brink of becoming a thorn in our side for years to come.
