I agree with this message I'd be OK with a one year extension, but nothing more than that. The Yanks could use one more stud starter in the rotation, so any money saved from letting Chapman walk could be put to better use.

The only way I'll like the extension is if it's only a year tacked on, and the tacked on year can't be for the full 15 million.... so give him an extra year at 12 million.. I'll be okay with that... if he isn't.. hope the door kicks ya in the ass before my foot Chappie... Looks like Beltran is a rock??? I’m not a fan of a first time manager at the MLB level but I actually think Beltran is a better choice than I expected them to make. I was hoping they'd go with A-Rod.... and I was hoping A-Rod's reaction would be "I didn't apply for the job..." but knowing his ego, he'd be like "but I'd make a great manager... good decision"

Sources -- World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg opts out of deal with Nationals
He's great when he's healthy, but with his injury history, I'd stay away from the type of contact he's looking for.

But the Yanks seem to be drawn to frail pitchers...and they also seem to want to stay away from the guys that are getting the biggest of contracts. We’ll go to the Goodwill store and shop for depth...Spare no expense to avoid expense...

He wouldn’t be on my list and with the decision to keep Chapman I would now be surprised if they’ll have the budget to pursue him or Cole in any event. So we probably will have more or less the same rotation we had last year as a result of keeping Chapman overpaid at the back of the bullpen.

So we probably will have more or less the same rotation we had last year as a result of keeping Chapman overpaid at the back of the bullpen. In reality, IF we get a full season of “good” Severino and Paxton can stay well the support from Tanaka and 4-5 has a ton of potential. There are some really big IFS naturally, but inherent to the sport. I’m not in favor of getting a big shiny object at Christmas time. I’d rather maintain what we have and add cautiously. A machine that just won 103 should be looking forward, not backward... At most, it may be smart to what it takes to clear away broken parts (Ellsbury, Frazier) to make room for the younger guys as they advance through the MiLB system. Even that can wait until the mid-season trading deadline. Other than the question of what happens to Didi, we’re going to have a long, boring winter... as usual... Clearing away Ellsbury would be like having the American Pickers show up and spot something in the back of the barn in the dust and chicken dirt. “I see you have an Ellsbury there behind all the other stuff. I had one of those years ago, and it really ran fast. Will it start up”? “I don’t know. I haven’t started it in a few years. The guy I got it from said he used to run it all the time”. “I’d take a chance at on it at the right price, but you’d have to help me get it out of the building” “I don’t know. I really paid up for that piece. Then again, I’m not using it. What do you think it’s worth”? “They used to bring a pretty good price, but the market on them has really dropped a lot the past few years. I should probably just leave it alone, really”...

I don’t think Ellsbury is blocking anyone. He’s on the IL and they’re collecting insurance on his contract. He’s irrelevant. Nobody is going to trade for him and if they released him they would be paying him the same amount but losing the insurance recovery.

The way I see it, somebody has to stand on the mound and throw baseballs. It might as well be someone who appears likely to be more than barely competent and working for a wage that seems to be within reasonable range of the market. If Cole will come aboard for that term and within those numbers, why not? If he starts pushing closer to the $275-$300 mark and wanting another year, tell him to have a nice life and thanks for playing the “I want to be a New York Yankee” game twice. Please do not play any more in the future...

The Yanks made a bunch of moves, mostly putting injured 60 Day IL guys back on the 40 man roster.
